Delta on VH1's Born to Diva!
Just thought you ladies might want to know that one of your soror's is a finalist on VH1's Born to Diva. Her name is Towanda Cofield. Last night she made it to the Top Three. She had sorors in the audience last night supporting her, and they were throwing up the sign and doing the call in support of her. She also threw up the sign at the end of the show. She's very talented. Now it's up to the public to vote for her and the other two finalist. If you want to vote for your soror, you can log on to www.Vh1.com They also have a short bio on her.

N4L you beat me to it. I noticed the same thing last night. She indeed is very talented. 2 of the top 3 were impressive, you can pick which one did not float my boat. I knew Mariah's ex hubby would have an "eye out" for her. She looks like his type.

Terralyn Ramsey is already a Gospel singer -- has a gospel CD. How is she eligible? Shouldn't these comps be for nonprofessional folks?

Towanda is tha bomb...
She really can sing, and she's SO CLASSY, too. I saw at the end of the show that someone was throwing up the pyramid, and I was like, oh, that's interesting!! But I think she's got such a great voice. She can be mellow and calm wit it, then BAM, she blows you out the water!! I already voted for her a bunch of times already yesterday, and I'ma go vote again today. And I don't know WHY TOMEY was picked, I was like, HUH??? She sux, I think Sasha shoulda been picked.
Misstery....

I just checked out the standing and Towanda Cofield is currently in last place she has 11% of the votes. Tarralyn Ramsey is in first place with 52% of the votes and Tomey Sellars is in second place with 34% of the votes. There is still time to vote!

Sasha wasn't picked because her and her lawyer were not satisfied with the contract VH1 offered. Since she wouldn't sign the contract, she couldn't be eligible to continue in the contest. There was another girl in Philly who probably would have been there instead of Towanda, but she too was not happy with the contract. Damn, VH1 must be shady.

I agree with you. Tomey sounded horrible and she has absolutely no stage presence.

Vote for Towanda!!!
I agree that it's not fair that Tarralyn is already a recording gospel artist with a CD out. She should not have qualified (even though homegirl can SANGGGGG!!).
Towanda is my friend's linesister from Temple (Spr. '99) so we've been sending emails out for everyone to vote for her.
I think it's going to be tough but I have a funny feeling Tarralyn is going to win.

CrimsonTide4:
To answer your question about how Tarralyn Ramsey can be eligible even though she's a gospel singer with a CD, the rules for Born To Diva state that you have to be UNSIGNED to a label at the time of the contest. Tarralyn's CD was released on Verity Records in 2000 (AWESOME CD!!!). Apparently, she is no longer signed to Verity, so that makes her a free agent and eligible to compete in the competition. However, I think someone would have made a big stink if she had been a Pop or R&B singer and had a project out. Gospel is coming up, but unfortunately, it still hasn't reached the same caliber and level of appreciation of Secular music.
I love Tarralyn, and I've been voting for her. However, I think she's playing herself. Just by her being on this show, and by some of the things that she has said, she is making it look as if she only recorded a Gospel CD to get paid. She made a statement that said something to the effect of ," People may know of Tarralyn Ramsey the Gospel Artist, but what they don't know is that Tarralyn the Gospel Artist didn't have $100 in her bank account." Plus, you have to question her management and record company. What kind of contract did they really have her under not to make any cash? John P. Kee produced her. That's enough to sell CD's by itself. Plus, when she was in the studio on the show, and they interviewed her, she said that she had to "detox" herself and stop singing like a "straight up church girl." Honey...if you were born to sing in church, you're gonna sound like a "straight up church girl" no matter what you sing! There' s nothing wrong with it! I sound like a straight-up church girl when I sing and I'm proud of it!
I have read articles dated back to when she first came out, and she was saying that she has turned down mainstream contracts because she was doing what God called her to do. This was back in her early teens. Now? I'm not the one to say that she has abandoned her calling, but that's how it looks.
I will be watching tomorrow night. No matter what, God's anointed always has favor! If it's in God's will, she will win this competition. And HE will get the glory!!!
Hope this answers your question!
