Membership Technology

Hey ladies,

I am constantly searching online for ways of bringing technology into our chapter. I hope this will help some of you.

I came across a website where you can make a CDrom about your chapter and hand it out on campus and mail to incoming freshmen. (http://www.greekdisc.com) Our chapter is trying to take this one step further and turn it into a UMiami Music Fraternities CDrom, which will include SAI, TBS, & PMA.

I also found out that your chapter can open a paypal account that you can route to your bank account, and attach the link to your website. (http://www.paypal.com) This will allow your sisters to pay dues online with a credit card.

Cool

Just checked out the Greek disk site and it is cool. However, would the disk include local GLOs as well as nationals and regionals. Just curious!

Our HQ puts out a business card size CD-ROM we can pass out during recruitment/informational events. They run around $1.50 each.

Though they charge a comission (roughly 5%, based on the number of members, ~7.5% for credit card transactions), Omega Financial is a great financial management service for chapters. Shortly after I became president, we switched to Omega. The biggest difference was time savings. Before Omega, we would spend 95% of our executive meetings bringing people in and trying to get them to pay their dues. After signing up with Omega, we were able to focus our engergies into other areas of chapter management that had been ignored for so long.

If any of you have trouble collecting dues, take a serious look at Omega. They really helped us out by freeing us of the responsibility of trying to collect money from unwilling members.

Their rate actually varies A LOT from chapter to chapter. It's not a flat percentage at all and really could be as high as 10% (it was at one time when I was treasurer of my chapter).

They aim to make $35 per member per semester. However that works out as a percentage is what they are taking.

So obviously if you bill something like rent through them their rate will be a lot lower.

that greek disc thing: are you sure it just focuses on one chapter? cuz i was looking at it and it seemed like it included ALL greek orgs on your campus. and since we have SO many greek orgs outside of NPC and IFC, it would be impossible to get all of them so newbies will get the full picture.

I just checked out that greek disk site. It's a cool idea, but really works better for fraternitys than sororities. With NPC formal recruitment you can't give the PNMs anything to take home, unless you did a generalized panhellenic one.
What would be cool is to have one made each year, kind of like a 'yearbook' for the chapter. A great way to keep a running history of the chapter as well. And when you graduate you have all 4 years on 4 CDs-the box set!

I have not checked this out super extensively, but it looks pretty good. The websites from many Fraternities seem really professional and well put together. There is some connection with http://www.affinityconnectioninc.com/.

Here is a demo http://www.2stayconnected.com/demo/

True, though as well as working well for fraternities, it could be ideal for local fraternities and sororities as well as a generalized panhellenic one.

That idea is lovely. I like the idea of embracing the digital age in creating a yearbook for people to keep! .

Question greekdisc.com

Has anyone sent off for a GreekDisc sample (you can request a free sample CD to look at, after entering your info on their site) and would be prepared to send it to me (If they've finished with it etc)? I put in my info on the website to request one, but I guess I'm just out of their catchment area or something as they never sent one out. Please PM me if you're willing to send one to me. I'm happy to pay postage.

-- Richard.

Really? They sent me one and have even called me and sent me email. I'm just gathering info for my Fraternity's National Officers to take a look at and they seem to think we are ready to go and make one...

I'll be turning the disk I got over to our NO people, so I can't give you the one I got. The sample appears to be from one school (Univ Texas). Am curious if it only focuses on the social GLO, as we have a chapter at UT and I wonder if they were included.

Must be just me who didn't merit a reply!

Completely understandable no problem. Obviously I'm still very interested in hearing from anyone else who might have one spare, in the meantime I wonder if they give a contact number for them you'd be able to pass on, with what they sent you emb021?

Hard to say. The panhellenic council might've paid for it and only budgeted for social GLOs or it might've been a corroborative informal effort between a few social fraternities?
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi everybody. I work for Eternal Interactive the creator of greekdisc.com and came across this thread. I entered, not to give a sales pitch, I promise, but rather to clarify a few things and thank you for mentioning us!

A CD can be used for recruiting and marketing purposes, orientation, as a yearbook etc. etc. It is a creative medium and each disc is a custom design made to suit the needs and objectives of the group. You can create one for your individual chapter, as part of your national chapter or University Greek Society. Including additional chapters will help defray your chapter's cost.

The cost of creating this type of piece will vary depending on the size, use of video, design elements, availability of assets, volume etc. Price generally begins at about $5,000. Many of the groups we've worked with generate sponsorship dollars to help pay for the project. We can discuss methods with you.

Lastly, if you would like to receive a sample CD please go to greekdisc.com to request one. We will send you one out right away. If you've already done so and didn't receive one, I apologize. Please request another and we will be sure to get it to you.

Thanks again!

Judy
