Hee! I just logged in to ask the same exact question!!

Here is my situation: I currently have a job. I want out of my job. I'm applying through a hospital website where you do not know who are you are writing to and you are applying to several different jobs. Help!

Oh yeah, it is for Western Psychiatric Hospital (where I am an employee under one research group. Should I mention that I am already an employee or just ignore it, as it is in my resume?)

I'm with ya - I hate writing cover letters. I just love the websites that say "Enter your cover letter here (optional)" - Who are they trying to kid that it's optional??

Here's what I did for mine:

Paragraph 1 specifies the job I'm applying for and says I'm a great candidate.
Paragraph 2 is my background, education, and experience.
Paragraph 3 is customized to the company and indicates why I'd be a good fit. (This shows them I've researched the company.)
Paragraph 4 gives my phone and email and thanks them.

HTH, and good luck

I really need to keep tabs on these for how many I send out for a job for the school year and for next summer.
And all the damn cover letters have to be unique! ARGH! I have to sell myself to every firm, make it firm specific and specific to their needs. What a pain!!!!

I can identify with AOX81! I too, suck at writing cover letters. The problem is that I can't tailor them to the targetted company, except for the contact person and the position that I am applying for. I hate writing cover letters.

Question Email Resume Question

When responding to employment ads that request for you to email them a copy of your resume, should you:

(A) also attach a copy of your coverletter as well as resume?

(B) just compose the email message as a coverletter and attach the resume by itself?

HELP!

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. It's such a pain to custom write cover letters for each company, and when the ad says to send a resume, I'm like phew that's easy. But I asked my sister, and she said that she sends cover letters even if they don't ask for them. I can see why though, because a cover letter is supposed to make you stand out from everyone else and if written well, it could bump you to the yes pile.

Do you guys realize how easy it is to submit a damn resume? I can pay $10 right now actually for a service to send my resume in to over 10,000 companies. You better damn well include a cover letter. And even then it's hard to get a recruiter to care about reading it.

So true. I have a great resume and cover letter and after applying to at least 20 places, I haven't gotten one single call back.
