Does the RING Matter?

Ladies, if your man had presented you with that "PEARLIZED BULL CHIT" last night, what would your reaction have been?

hmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm not sure.

I would have liked it because it came from his heart and it shows that not only he loves me but he wants me to share part of his family with him.

On the otherhand, if it is REALLY horrendous, then the ring should be given as a wedding gift and ANOTHER ring as the engagement ring.

As a wedding gift, it can be used as the "Something Old".

Dang...how bad is it? I would LOVE to say...'it's about love', but if it looks like crap...I am going to have to wonder how well he really knows me. It depends on whether it was cheap or just ugly. I would much rather have him postpone giving me my ring, than to get a piece of crap.

The scene where Maxine's husband said that when they got married, he bought what he could afford (and they were younger). When they renewed their vows, he bought her something better. This was because they were doing better financially.

I can appreciate that. IF brotha can AFFORD to spend, then WHY NOT?

At this rate whenever I do get married, we BOTH should be doing "better". So, I guess I'm leaning more towards the size does matter. The same goes for whatever engagement gift I give him. That gift should "be all that".

I guess it boils down to what floats your boat.

I agree w/Gyrl7 & AKA2d.

I'm not one for surprises so he would definately know what my ring preference is.

I'm not at all materialistic but the ring is also a reflection of the man & if wants me to represent (as being "his"), then he's gonna have to come correct w/the ring.

I know of a couple who were living in different cities when they became engaged. How bout ole girl wasn't happy w/the ring that she received, so she "traded up" w/o telling her fiance so when he saw her, after the proposal, she had a different ring. He was hurt, but do you know he still married her.

Dayum! That's some shady stuff!

I agree with what was said earlier. He should know what you would accept or not accept.

Speaking from very expensive housing market

If it's a choice between a fantabulous ring and a down payment on a house or condo, I will choose the dwelling. You can't live in a ring.

Wink

What if you already have a home or both parties have a home? For some of us, when we wed or if we wed, we'll probably have a home? Then what?

What if you can afford a home and you don't have to save?

In that case, a fantabulous ring is fine. I'm only speaking for myself, as a non-homeowner.

Talking Covering all angles of this complex subject!

I was just checking. I don't own either. I think we need to try to cover all aspects to get folks' perspectives on this situation.

This actually happened to someone I know. She wasn't satisfied with her ring so she talked to her fiance' about it and they went to pick out a different ring together. He was a little hurt but at the same time he was glad that she was honest with him.

Take the ring, you don't want to hurt his feelings. You can always "upgrade" after you get married. The ring that Damon gave Teri was an heirloom, and she was very gracious to accept it. << It was kinda ugly though!>>
