Computer Help
Ok, my computer is giving me only 16 colors. How do i get it back to maximum capacity. I've done the color setting thing and it's only giving me 2 choices, 16 colors and 2 colors. Help, this is really annoying the freak out of me.

Which flavor of Windows are you using? Sounds like your video driver got messed up and you may have to reinstall it. Do you have the CDs/diskettes that came with your computer? If so, the driver will probably be on one of them.

Not likely. You can try searching for the driver on the 98 disc - it just might be there.
If you're getting XP tomorrow, then I would hold off on installing any drivers. Chances are very high that XP will recognize your video card without you having to install a driver separately.
If you really need to have all the colors today, you'll have to find out which type of video card you have, then download and install the drivers. Most companies are pretty good about providing drivers for their cards. I don't suppose you know offhand what type of card you have, do you?
This site could help you to determine which card you have:

You should also check the resolution of your display. Higher resolution = fewer color choices. Although these days, it's unusual that you'd be offered only 16 colors unless your resolution was 1,000,000 x 750,000 or something.
If your video card is older, XP may not recognize it or have the appropriate drivers, so you may have to do a little digging online anyway.

i have issues too.
i have 3 partitions in my computer. 2 have over 4 GB of space and hold all my mp3s, computer programs, etc. my C drive is my windows driver and a bunch of random techi stuff.
well about a week ago, i had about 700 mb left on my c drive. low i know, but it was running ok. now i am down to about 124 mb. i haven't installed anything on my c drive lately, i have my internet cache in another drive and it's spotless, so i don't know what's wrong. i can't uninstall anything because there is nothing to uninstall.
errrrrrrr... i think i am gonna take up an offer one of my friends suggested. he is thinking of starting a business where he rents a warehouse and finds spare computer parts. for $10 for 10 minutes, you get the warehouse, the spare computer parts, and a sledgehammer. you figure it out.

Great idea!
~600MB is a lot of data to just be showing up in such a short amount of time without having installed anything. The first thing you should do is a search for all files > 1 MB that were modified within the past week or two. That should give you an indication of where all of this excess data is coming from.

600mb might be a worm, but that would write over the whole thing and not leave anything even 124mb. Maybe the paging file kept expanding and never overwrote itself. There are hundreds of off-the-wall ideas that it could be. I'm guessing you just need to do what Jon suggested and also defrag all your drives while you're at it, this is of course after you search and clean, or even if you find nothing to clean, defragging is always a good idea.
