Petitioners

First, I'd like to say congratulations to Zeta Phi chapter on their rechartering and congrats to JCSU PG on their Spring '03 line and on their impending rechartering.

I have a question for all the petitioners (and former petitioners). Which season do you rep, when you became a petitioner or when you actually crossed? I see that people from Zeta Phi rep the date that they actually became brothers but other petitioners rep the date that they became petitioners. Why is that?

Well I represent the season that I became a petitioner because that was a special day to me and we as fall petioners at Johnson C. Smith University have gone through hell and back in order to get to where we are right now. I mean the petitioning process is extremely a long and tedious one. One part of being a petioner is that you have to do a rush. With that and those members that have rushed or pledged our groups, I feel as though they should represent the year that they became petioners. Like I stated in the beginning we started out in the fall of '02 and our line that became petitioners began in SP2K3. They should represent when they became petitioners as well as we are going to represent when we became petitioners.

But wouldn't the day you actually see the light of Alpha Phi Omega be so much more significant?

Yeah I know the anticipation of crossing far too well. It just seems wierd to me to rep the date that you became petitioners. It's like me reppin' March 3, 2001, the night I started pledging instead of April 27, 2001, the night I crossed. It just seems wierd especially when other former petitioners rep their actual initiation date.

I like the way Zeta Phi does it. It stays true to the actual process of how they became a chapter, and it also places them in accord with all the other Brothers who rep their crossing date.

Being a petitioner I feel as though you can rep the day you became a petitioner, until you actually cross and see the actual light of Alpha Phi Omega. I don't have a problem after I graduate saying that we got our charter in Fall 03', but in my heart I will always know that I saw the light on Nov. 3rd 2002 with my petitioning ceremony, and on April 13, 2003 when we gave a petitioning ceremony to the next set of petitioners (6 items or less). I see the light of Alpha Phi Omega it burns in my heart deeply and I will continue to embrace now, when we get our charter, and forever.

Yes, it burns in my heart as well. I represent Alpha Phi Omega everyday that I wake up. I love this organization and I love what we do which is Service To Humanity. I believe that our founders birthed an organization that could embrace the true meaning of what a fraternity is. We are not a social organization. We are a service organization. Along with my other petitioning brothers I think that our petitioning ceremony is meaningful to me as well. That afternoon on November 3, 2003 and the day that we performed a petitioning ceremony on April 13, 2003 for 6 Items Or Less. We have also worked hard for this organization to survive slander and all other mishaps on the campus of JCSU. I cannot wait until the day comes that we officially recharter our chapter. That will be meaningful as well. I hold all of these events in my heart.

Well we (both lines) rep the Spring 03 at Zeta Phi because, a. That is when we got approved to be rechartered for April 26, 2003 (my crossing date) and b. because that is when we finished the entire process. Now to difference ourselves from the second line, my line The 24 Survivors of the APOcalypse are considered members of the Alpha Line and 13 T.E.A.R.S. of Ghost are considered members of the Beta line. That is how we distinguish ourselves, plus only Alpha line members names went on our rechartering certificate.

Cool As my LB said

As my LB News @ 9 stated, that is the way we at Zeta Phi do our thizzle [thing]. For JCSU [what up Dominic!], I can understand how y'all do your thing also. It makes since for you guys to distinguish yourselves that way for now, just don't forget what you actually will be. The basic understanding is that when you have not officially finished, you feel the need to rep something to set yourself aside, but once you have, you sometimes rep them both [like myself] or just rep the ending. Neither way is incorrect as long as the other way or time is recognized. I guess that is why soem rep their beginning and some rep their ending, but in the end, they are all the same.

As my LB's have previously stated our reason, let me just tell you this...as fellow petitioners we KNOW what it is to go through it and be so excited to come out on the other side. We have done the petitioning thing for a year and a half as well. But how can you rep crossing sands, when you have not even taken any of the final steps to become a brother. Like VW said, thats like repping the day you go online. You don't you rep the day you finish. You won't be a petitioner much longer but you will be a brother for life, and with claiming sands of FA 02, then you are giving the impression that you are actually a brother and you aren't. You learn a little in the petitioning ceremony, you learn a lot at the rechartering ceremony, thats the date we saw the alpha phi omega light and everything was trully over. So as much as I know we did this for a year and a half, I will be Spring 2003 for life...every process is a journey no matter how long it takes, don't start celebrating in the middle , you have only just begun. Trust me.

Talking Rep When you started

I rep the season when I became a petitioner because that date was very special and also i guess because thats what we were told when we started, we were told that regardless to when we actually completed our process we would be the Fall 02 line even though its gonna be Fall 03 when we finish. So yeah thats why I rep Fall 02 instead of waiting till its all over.
