Most and Least Successful Alum Activities

I would love to have people share what they considered the most and least successful alum activities they participated in. I hope that sharing the good and the bad will help all alums prepare better programming for their members.

Edited to add: I was thinking of activities organized by alum groups for alums....

We had a 'cookout'. One alum showed up

We really don't have an alum base yet.. With my graduation in a few weeks I think we'll be up to 10 or so

We do a Dodger game each spring and invite the area seniors to get them involved in the alumnae group -- it is always one of our best events. This month we are going to a new day spa, last month we went wine tasting. Fondue parties are always a blast!

Each summer we have a family beach day and we have a block party in which we participate.

Good luck!

Successful:

1. Semi formal party. We had it at a hotel and there were about 150 people. (75 alumni, 75 wives/girlfriends)

2. golf tournament. Most of the fraternities on my campus have a golf tournament. Turnout is in the 50-100 range.

3. baseball game in the summer. We never have less than 25 alumni show up. It is easy to put together.

4. fishing trip on a party or charter boat.

5. paintball

Alumnae Evants

We have an alum chapter with about 40 paid members, all from the same college. Here is a list of some alum events (put on by the alum chapter for alumnaes).

Event (# attendees)
First meeting (at college during Division Conference (11)
Lunch at IHOP (14)
BBQ in Park (8 + dates)
Las Vegas Trip (2)
Meeting at the college (9)
Founder's Day with chapter (6)
Holiday Shopping in SF (7)
Stamping Meeting in a sister's home (22)
Candy Philanthropy (7)
Dinner at Chevy's (17)
BBQ and swimming at a sister's home (7)
Alumnae Reunion (with chapter) (25+?)
Founder's Day which we hosted (5)
Meeting with "simply treats" in sister's home (12 + 5 babies)
Lunch at Restaurant (9)
Scrapbooking party (5)
Plans for this weekend- Spa Party and Dancing at club at night
Plans for this summer- BBQ with other alumnae chapter

For us, the most well attended was a reunion sponsored by the collegiac chapter, but for alum only events, gatherings in a sister's home (centrally located) with a relaxed atmosphere bring in the most women.

Sometimes it is a great event and just the wrong time or location, sometimes it is just an okay event, but the right time and local! Best if the invitations go out in plenty of time to decide. eVite is great for this.

Good luck with your alum chapters,
Amy

Cutiepatootie,

I was thinking the same exact thing! I'm a true Dodger Blue fan! I'm all about L.A. sports!

As for successful activities:

-Our annual spring tea: very popular with all age groups

-Spa night: Held at a local upscale spa. Fun, and our fee that night was credited to future services!
