Greek Life at WKU--any advice?
Just wondering....I will be transferring to Western Kentucky University in the fall and was wondering about the greek system there. What are the better sororities, fraternities, etc. and what events do they host or participate in? Also, what are the general stereotypes of the sororoties and fraternities on campus. I know that none of this really matters, but I am just curious. Thanks!

Western Kentucky has no valuable info on their website- trust me, it doesn't say much.
I will PM you, tlevan2. I graduated in 2002 from Western and AlphaGamDiva, another board member here also is a member of a sorority from there.

I noticed that, ilovemyglo. You've really got to hunt to find anything GLO related on the Western website.
Didn't there used to be an non-WKU site that listed all of the sororities and fraternities? I can't remember.

I never went to WKU but do go to BG a couple of times a year. My hubby went there and his family still lives there. he also worked at UK for 2 years. It sure would make things easier if I actually lived in the same town as an AGD chapter, esp. being an advisor. GTau is 45 minutes from here and 1.5 hours from work (depending on traffic).
Best of luck at Western! Basketball season should be very interesting now that Georgia has its newest coach from WKU and, contractually, they have to place each other a few times. And I enjoyed pullling for them when they won the national football championship in the fall.

For the AOPi chapter there I say affiliate.
Reason #1- Bowling Green sucks- period. There isn't much to do unless you are greek, although you can stay busy pretty much the only thing is partying and that won't help with school work, ya know? Plus AOPi has part of sorority dorm which is probably one of the nicest on campus.
Reason #2- Like I said in my PM AOPi doesn't have a bad rep, they are known as the expensive house because I believe their dues are the highest.
Reason #3- They have a lot of activities that they are involved in, like the Rose Bowl they hold and the Mud Volleyball (we were champs last yera!).
Reason #3- Greek life at western, while very competetive and very cliquey at times really comes together for the most part and support each other's events.
I didn't feel like AOPi was the place for me. I didn't feel comfortable there, but they weren't a bad place. They have good and bad- just like every chapter.
I still don't get the snapping thing they do- I always got annoyed with it- but that is their chapter and what they do. Bizarre but appearantly there are other chapters out there that do this too (not just aopi).
I was a broadcasting major and new some sisters from the chapter there that were in it too. You have plenty of time for both- TRUST ME! WKU's broadcasting program is extremely competetive but if you are dedicated it is no problem. I did both and graduated with honors and I was very active in both my sorority and the department!
GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the advice ilovemyglo. I know an AGD at western actually, tabatha bowlin, who is one of my really good friends and she absolute loves your sorority. She is very involved and told me that the campus is mainly greek oriented, so I have been trying to decide whether or not to affiliate with AOII. Anyways, thank you so much for your advice!
