Angry Making Assumptions

Don't you just hate it when people make assumptions that you will be giving up your time to go do something you never signed on to do??

My husband was recently asked to be our temple's liaison to some Jewish org in our area. He didn't particularly want to do it, but he signed up because he wants to be on the temple's board. Ok, fine, he can do what he wants.

So someone came up to me yesterday and said, "Oh, I'm so glad you're coming in tomorrow to make some phone calls." WTF?? This is the first I've heard that the telethon exists, never mind that they think I'm giving up my Sunday to work it! Then she says "I'd heard that <my husband's name> and his wife were going to be helping out." She didn't even know my name.

Add to this, that my husband hadn't heard about this telethon either, nor had he been asked to participate.

If they had thought to ASK me before making assumptions... well, I probably still would've said no to actually making phone calls, but I would have found some other way to help out. Now, I have zero desire to do anything for them in any way, including financially.

Can you tell I'm p!ssed.....

My church at home used to do that...my mom would buy raffle tickets, and it would turn into us being asked to come down and help with some church fair or something.

Across faiths, religion at times knows how to try to squeeze the most out of you.

Yep... and that's one thing I like about being a Mason -- I usually don't get pestered or bothered to 'help out with this, do that' unless I choose to do so. Besides, we're not allowed to 'work Masonically' on Sunday except for funerals (it's supposed to be a day of rest anyway).

Which is why I have a sign in my new house clearly stating:

NO SOLICITING
NO PROSELYTIZING
NO DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES

We didn't call you
We believe in God and country
And we're NOT interested in your products or services!
So, please don't bother.
Thank you for your cooperation.

AlphaSigOU--where did you get that sign? I think my parents would like that!

I'm surprised how many people still sell stuff around malls etc when it says no soliciting. We also have a sign at home that says no soliciting, but people still come by-- they throw their newsletters or whatever in our yard. It says no soliciting so don't throw your crap in our yard.

I don't know if they even make a sign like that... I just created it myself!

Same rule applies to them... well, maybe I can make an exception if they're selling Girl Scout cookies, but nowadays there's so much selling of absolute crap going on that I'm not interested in or have no use for.
