Question Interested

Hello to all the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha.I just wanted to know a few things about how the AKA's go about choosing their members. In the interview process what are they really looking for and how much of the interview really determines whether you become a member or no? Also can anyone tell me a good website with the best information on your organization

Would you say that color would or could be a requirement? I went to an intrest meeting and all of the AKA's there made it a point to say that they didnt fit the stereotype. Do you think that they could only be looking for darkerskinned women?

My sorors must have been referring to the stereotype that AKAs are light-skin with long hair. Color is not, nor could it be a requirement for initiation. For some reason, that seems to be a stereotype that just will not die. You will find Alpha Kappa Alpha women of every skin complexion. Maybe the sorors were pointing out the fact that there is no truth to the stereotype whatsoever.

I don't think that stereotype really exist anymore. At my school they all are totally different. The only people who tend to think like that are the people who know nothing about AKA or sororities in general. Many of my friends use that stereotype as an excuse to dislike the organization.

When selecting potential candidates for initiation, we look for such things as your level of committment, dependability, dedication, intelligence, leadership abilities, and community service projects you have participated in. Of course, there is also the GPA requirement. There are quite a few other factors that are considered when selecting candidates. Maybe some of my sorors can add to the list.

Whateva i agree with your response it is evident that AKA's come in all hues, shapes, and sizes. I am dark skinned and had no problem making line. You are right when you say that people who don't KNOW like to perpetuate those stereotypes because they want someone to hate on. They are the real problem not my Sorors.

I would have to say one important aspect that can't necessarily be measured on paper is your personality. All your other 'stuff' can be up to par, but without
a personality you can't really get many places. This is not only pertaining to a sorority, but also LIFE.
Now I am pretty sure that this can get into a great big discussion with a whole lot of odds and ends but that is not my intention. I just feel that a notable disposition
is a key quality.
