bringing a purse to rush?
What do you all think about bringing a purse with you to rush? I don't think I would bring my cell phone just because if it rings that'd be soooo rude and i wouldn't even dream of picking it up anyway, I would think it would just show a non interest at the particular sorority party your at? But if I were to bring a purse with my phone off and my wallet or whatever and maybe some lipstick or mirror, would that be okay? I know there is a lot of walking around but what should you or shouldn't you bring with you when rushing?

I believe that if you bring a purse, your rush guide will hold it for you between parties. Unless you have a family situation where someone might be calling you with emergency info, I would say leave the cell phone at home, period.

At my school, recruitment counselors hold everyone's purses and girls aren't allowed to wear watches or bring purses into houses etc. (but we only have three sororities). more than likely, your recruitment counselor will let you know what the rules for your school when you have your first meeting. either way, if you bring a purse I would keep it small and just put lipstick and some other little things in it.

At my school, PNM's usually bring purses, and we don't think twice about it. I do recommend something small, though, just for your lipstick and keys.

definately yes!
Bring a purse! It's great to able to reapply makeup etc. But I'd keep it small, plus i think small purses are cuter! Too big and I'd feel like my mom...winks... At schools with larger rush I am pretty sure it's common to have your rusher ask to hold your purse. Usually it's the first thing out of their mouth! Plus, you won't be able to figet with it inside their house!

I would bring a purse. Other than the lipstick/mirror/tampons thing, I'm also asthmatic and need to carry 2 inhalers with me at all times.
Oh yeah...if anyone tries to take my watch away, they will pull back a nub.
It doesn't have to be a Birkin bag or anything. Just a little bar bag will do. Is that really such a problem?

Are those cute little purses with the long skinny straps still "in"? If so, those are big enough for a little makeup and your watch and Tic Tacs AND you can treat it as an accessory for your outfit.
Like others have mentioned, either the recruitment counselors will keep them for you. I can remember asking to hold the PNM's purse for them during the parties, does that make me old?

I would say bring a purse, it is nice to carry a little lip gloss and a mirror to check your hair before parties. Our Rho Chis had big soccer mom bags where they kept our purses and umbrellas (we had a rainy rush) while we were in the houses.

I would say bring a pursue too... We were told just to set them down outside the house and the rho chis watched them, or they would take them as we signed in and stuff... It's good because you can put some flip flops in there for when you're walking from house to house, an umbrella (well it rains here all the time), a fan (it's really hot in August and what's worse than sweating off all your make up), perfume, compact and mirror and a little lip gloss , oh and those little oil removing sheets... they help with sweat too

red - just a fyi - since there are no houses at utk, you will just be walking between suites in our panhellenic building. the most walking you will be doing will between the 3 floors and up and down the halls. bring that purse!

Until last year I would have said definitely bring a purse. Last year we had an incident at USC where several PNM's purses were stolen. As a result, this year, PNMs either have to take their purses inside with them or not bring them. Panhellenic is making this VERY CLEAR to PNMs and it is in the Recruitment rules.

If you bring the cell phone with you, just make sure it is OFF when you are in the rush party, and tucked away in your purse where no one can see it (cuz they might think it's switched on). Don't set it to "vibrate" or another non-ringing function, or you'll be tempted to answer it during the party (I know that I would be). And yes, it would definitely convey a lack of interest! But you already knew that!
I think it would be fine to bring a small purse for lipstick, keys, mints, etc. I know that in the parties that I have assisted, most girls left them inside the door of the house. You may or may not wish to do this (because of the potential theft factor). A small little purse is best!

When I went through rush at UTK, I carried my purse. Nobody takes them from you during the parties. That building gets so hot in August, I urge you to bring a purse, and put a powder compact or blotting papers in it to combat shine. Trust me, you will "glow!"
