Three new Centennial Colonies
I just got a letter today "announcing" the three Centennial Colonies!
+++++++++++++
The National Council of Delta Zeta Sorority is very proud to announce three Centennial Colonies to be established in the 2002-2003 academic year.
University of Florida: Pi Alpha Colony
Florida is a highly competitive University of 47,000 students in Gainesville, Florida and known as the home of the "Gators". We are joining fifteen NPC groups with average chapter size of 156 women. Colonization will take place after formal recruitment in the fall of 2002.
University of Hartford: Pi Beta Colony
Hartford is a competitive, private University of 4,000 students in West Hartford, Connecticut. On May 4, 2002 an interest group of 25 exceptional women were pledged to Delta Zeta by the Beta Gamma women from the University of Connecticut. Chapter total is 50 and there are six NPC groups on campus. Additional recruitment will take place in the fall of 2002.
California State University, Northridge: Pi Gamma Colony
Northridge is a competitive University of 31,000 students located twelve miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The San Fernando Valley Alumnae Chapter has been supporting the National Center for Deafness on the Northridge Campus for the past 20 years. Average chapter size is 83 and there are five NPC groups. Colonization will take place after formal recruitment in the fall of 2002.
Our thanks to the local alumnae and local collegians, the National Extension Chairman and the Extension Teams for their superior job in presenting Delta Zeta Sorority to these College Panhellenics. We are thrilled to be invited to join the Greek communities on these outstanding campuses.

My chapter, the Xi Omicron chapter at Loyola Marymount University, is going to be helping the Cal State Northridge chapter get started! I am really excited about getting another DZ chapter in California, especially with the closing of the Santa Clara chapter.

Not to be cynical but I go to the univeristy of hatford and i have to be honest, the all greek advisor was a dz and all of a sudden out of no where with like not even a month of preparation they are already a colony and i thought that usually takes more time then that. I have to say that im a little upset about this because i think that greek advisor helped out and i dont think thats fair because she is not supposed to be bias and thats the way it seems.

I am sorry you feel that way. There is a process that we all abide by, and I would bet that is was followed to the letter. Delta Zetas is a stand-up organization, and any school should be proud to have a DZ colony join their campus.

I agree with my sister Tracy on this. Having a Delta Zeta alumna as the all Greek advisor on your campus is nice for a new colony, but that doesn't mean that the advisor has "pull" with Headquarters, or that the girls in the colony didn't work hard to get where they are.
There is definitely a strict process that every potential chapter must go through in order to become a DZ colony. Not every step is made public, so although it may seem as if there was little preparation to those who were not directly participating in the colonization process, that doesn't mean that there was no work going on.
At any rate, the introduction of a new colony to a campus should be considered a positive event for Greek Life. It means that Greek membership is growing at the school, and that is most definitely a good thing. I would hope that you would welcome the new DZ girls on your campus as your Greek sisters and help them to get established. Good PR between chapters is as vital to Greek Life as good PR between Greeks and non-Greeks.
Greek Love,

I'm good friends with several DZ alumnae from FSU, including a member of my alumnae panhellenic board and the chapter's advisor. They are a great bunch of girls!!

I'm so happy to hear about these new colonies! I'm going to be working with Extension to get a colony going at Vanderbilt here in Tennessee. Wish us luck!

I can actully tell you how the University of Hartford colony is because I am in it! We are doing wonderful up in CT (even though the weather has been awful!) We were all initiated on April 6th, and on April 26th is our intallation which we are all so excited about. There is now 50 of us, which is chapter total on our campus, we took another 11 girls during fall recruitment and they have totally added a new dynamic to the colony. Things here are just looking so well and we can not wait to become a chapter at the end of the month. Its been a long hard journey, but we believe it has been so worth it.

Really? That is a strange coincidence! We were excited because we were the first ever colony to be initiated and installed on two different days. Kind of exciting for us.

As a colony member of the Omicron Pi chapter in 1993, I can tell you we too were initiated on one day, and the next day our chapter was installed. It was an exciting time. Congrats!!
