Cutesy Things
You guys...I need help. The sisterhood in my chapter is disappearing. When I joined, we were so close but things have been steadily declining over the years...and I want my sisters to be the best friends who have midnight phone calls that last for hours again...
Do you have any fun cutesy sisterhood activity things we can do? We have a thing called roses and thorns. A rose is something positive you say about a sister and a thorn is something in sorority that needs a little bit of extra work...but if you say a thorn, a rose has to accompany it. We also have a prized possession day...it's where each sister brings her most prized possession, explains why it means so much to her, and lets a sister borrow it for three days and then they have to return it...it's supposed to build trust.
Anyways, we need more things like that...sisterly types of things...to bring us closer. Any ideas or things that have worked for your chapter? I want my sisters to be sisters again

My chapter has what we call the "support bra." At the chapter meeting each week, our sisterhood chair gives the bra to whichever sister is having a rough week or is stressed or whatever. The cups of the bra are filled with candy. It's a nice way to buck up those that are down, and it's funny as hell because it's this giant turquoise bra.

Dianne I LOVE that idea...too funny! And fitting for Zeta bc of all our work with breast cancer.
Just last night we did a great sisterhood activity. Every sister got a decent sized paper heart and wrote her name in the top corner of it. Then we each passed our heart to the person next to us. Each sister wrote something funny, cute, etc on everyone's heart...things like "I love my grand-big" "the best old pres ever" "100% Zeta" "likes to chug her beers" "thinking about food 23hrs a day" "my wine buddy" "always ready for rita's italian ice" "powerpuff girl loving panhel princess" "miss you next year, what am I going to do without you" "miss zeta..you know everything about our history!" "cheery" etc...
then we each picked the best thing on our heart and shared it with the chapter. And the person who wrote it identified herself"
I know I will treasure my heart forever!!

We do the same thing except ours is called "support a sister".Whoever gets it that week adds something to it that describes their personality. Its like a size DDD.

That's friggin' BRILLIANT. I'm suggesting that to our sisterhood chair. My chapter's so crazy they would go for it

My chapter has letter nights, where after a meeting, the sisters make lettered anything. All the sisters bring in different types of fabric, and they use stich-witchery to attach the letters to shirts, bags, shorts, or anything that they'll stick to. It's a lot of fun, and there is usually a good turn out.

We took pieces of paper with a different name at the top and you wrote down what you thought that sister would be like in 10 years. You then picked the craziest one on yours and read it out loud. We had people who would be beating up other soccer moms who said that their kids played better than the other mom's kids and Nobel Prize winners. It was really funny. One sister's said that she would find a way to prevent lung cancer so she could keep smoking. It was a good bonding experience. We also did a Star Search and broke into groups and had to sing and dance as goofy as we could to funny songs. Blackmail pictures from that also makes your sisterhood closer. . . j/k. (sort of)

Well, we were struggling for sisterhood until we tried this idea. We each got a journal, SISTERBOOK. Each week your journal gets passed around throughout the semester to different sisters. The sisters write one or two pages about you and such. Like, why they're glad they are your sister? or fun things you've done together. Then during finals week we receive our journals back. That way we have something fun to look forward too.
The great thing about this is that the sisters get together so they can trade off journals together. Last night we all had dinner where we socialized for thirty minutes, then all got to work on our journals. Its been really fun and I can't wait to see what some of my sisters wrote in mine!

My chapter does tons of sisterhood things at almost every chapter meeting...
We have the Cool KAT jar (KAT=Kappa Alpha Theta). This jar is usually filled with candy or some other small item, and basically the person who gets it one week fills it up with something else and gives it away the next week. People pass it on for all types of things.
We have the Mystery Theta, which is a box that has three clues written on the outside about a girl in the chapter (for example: I was a champion roller-skater when I was little, I've never dyed my hair, I have three different piercings). Then the box is passed around chapter, and people write their guesses down and put them in the box. At the end of chapter, the Mystery Theta is revealed, and the people who guessed correctly get a little prize, like a piece of candy.
Then we have awards, just little things written on construction paper, that are for "Theta Lifesavers" and "Hot Mamas" and "Theta Stars." There's also a "Theta Bandaid" for anyone that needs a little encouragement. Sisters nominate sisters for the awards during the week and then our sisterhood chair makes them up.
Finally, we have "Warm and Fuzzies" which are two stuffed animals that go to anyone that's had a hard week. They get to keep one for the week.
Whew, I think that's all...

We had what we called the "Gam Goddess crown" and it was one of those fake tiara's that you got at walmart. Each week at chapter it was given to someone who either had a bad week and needed some support or to someone who did something that deserved some recognition.
We also had the "Super Scholar" and "Super Slacker" boxes. In the "Super Scholar" box you put all the good grades and stuff you got, and in the "Super Slacker" box you put how you slacked off in classes that week. Each week a name was picked out of the box and that person got to pick a prize from a basket geered to being a scholar (cute prizes) or a slacker (school supplies).

New Ideas
Good ideas you guys!!
We've got some of the same sort of things in my chapter:
The "Supportive Sister Award": A giant bra that's voted on during the week and given out at chapter during the weekly meeting. Sisters autograph and personalize as they see fit.
Ellie the Elephant: Stuffed elephant given to a sister nominated to VP Member Education to help aid a upcoming stressful-school related week (elephants never forget!)
Watercan Award: A watering can that's given weekly to the sister that has helped the chapter to grow during the week. To be personalized as they see fit
Sister Notebook: We each have our own page and for a week, we wrote down whatever we wanted to say about any particular sister (on her respective page). Mostly how much we love them, awesome things they do, and special memories we have
Star DG: A "mini-bio" about a mystery sister that's posted in the suite at school to be read and sisters make guesses and win DG dollars
Happy Dollar: A piggy bank is passed around during chapter and anyone that wants to share happy news puts a dollar in and lets everyone know about something good that happened (either to them or to another sister) or they can thank sisters for good things they've done.
Secret Sisters: We draw names every once in a while and then we shower our secret sisters with little love notes and presents. It's just a nice way to make sisters smile and improve their weeks.
I can't wait to suggest some of these other ideas to our Member Ed VP! Thanks for sharing everyone...hopefully you can use and enjoy some of my ideas too :-)
Greek Love and Mine,
Mandie
