2nd date ideas

So, I went out to dinner with a girl from work this weekend for the first time and I can't say it particuarly well or particuarly badly. The conversation went well enough, but it never really seemed to go anywhere besides work and people that we both knew. But it seemed like both of us were kind of out of it during the date (granted it was a Sunday night after both of us had had VERY harsh weekends).

I was thinking about inviting her out to a baseball game this weekend, but two major problems pop up:

1) It could very well be a 4 + hr. date and if things get rocky, it could be a looong date and

2) major league baseball games are expensive (tickets, parking, food, etc.)

Normally, when a first date doesn't really knock me back on my heels, I wouldn't bother setting up a second, but I think this situation might be a little different. So, my question to you guys is, what would you reccomend for a second date where we can have a good conversation but not be a repeat of the first dinner date?

I would say go bowling/rollerskating/mini-golfing, something cheesy, because that will be relaxing and fun, and you will have an opportunity to talk. Only if she has a good sense of humor though... if not, she might just think you are weird.

I like to go to late-night type diners too, those are fun and provide a good atmosphere to talk and get to know each other.

Anywhere where you can be laid-back and not feel nervous should work.

i'd just say do a lunch date or something in the afternoon, so in case it does go a lil rocky, you can always bust in with, "wow....it's getting late and i have this...thing i gotta get to....", and it would be at an hour that's feasible for you to actually have something else to do. ya know? you may wanna check out a dating story on TLC for good ideas, too...those dates are often afternooners and don't seem to last that long. i know, i know....a guy watching a dating story, but hey....trying to help here!

you may think a picnic is a bit too cozy for date #2, but it would probably take up a decent amount of time and a good way to get conversation flowing....providing weather is nice. coffee places, bowling allies....traditional places but kinda not, those are fun, too. but def. something early in the day so if it goes bad, you can quit it with a good line, or you can carry it on if it goes well.

GOOD LUCK!
Monica

Go to see a movie that you can talk about afterwards.

Talking Does she even like baseball?

Not everyone's a fan. But if she is, do ya'll have a minor league? Or some other sport that's a minor league? Soccer, hockey, arena football? Anything? It'd be cheaper and if it goes badly you can still watch the game.

If she enjoys sports you could always go to a sports bar for lunch/dinner. Again, if it goes badly, there'll be games to watch.

Since it's someone from work, maybe you can do happy hour after work with a couple other coworkers too. You might learn something in a group that you wouldn't otherwise. And there won't be as much pressure.

i think it is great that you are giving it a second try! sometimes first dates are really awkward, but second ones go better!

honestly, i think it's difficult to come up with too many ideas during the winter/cold weather months. So much I like to do is outdoors, and that's an important part of the dating ritual.

Take her somewhere fun, that way you aren't stuck trying to force a conversation on each other. Heh, I guess I'll never grow up, but they have these places back home called Dave & Busters, and up in Boston they have Jillian's. All the same stuff, arcade games, air hockey, pool tables, and to top it off a bar on each floor. I can't think of any girl who wouldn't have fun in a place like that.

I would avoid movies, personally, for start-up dates. If the movie is bad, it's a negative hex on the evening, plus all you can talk about is "Damn, that movie sucked." You can't talk till afterwards, and if you're going in the late afternoon / evening, you'll be tired when you get out. Keep it simple and somewhere with the freedom to come and go. That's my way, and haven't had any problems yet
