NPC Issues...or CPH

First to all you wonderful women out there who sit on the NPC at your local chapter....BLESS YOUR SOULS.

I sat on the panel last year, but since we were a colony we didn't have to vote or didn't have to worry about formal rush or anything, I didn't have to do much, save for the last 2 meetings at the end when we talked about informal.
I was given the postion of Recruitment Chair for next semester, and all I wanted to do was make a panhel website, being the summer I emailed all the delegates and started getting information together...who is gonna turn down a person volunteering to make a website, espcially since we've never had a site before?

BUT....this is not the case. I get an email rant back from the incomming president, saying first off its not NPC, but College Panhellenic. Sorry for being lazy, and typing 3 letters instead of a bunch. Also that we can't consult with our chapters?? What are we gonna consult on our chapters about? What color the background is? The list goes on...

Just wondering if anyone else has issues with their local NPC, exuse me College Panhellenic...and any suggestions?
Cause right now, I AM

Are you not suppoesed to 'consult' with your chapter because if disafiliation rules? If so, go to your greek advisor and ask what you can do to get the information you need.

If she's just worried that your website will sudenly turn into an extention of your chapter's site, do your best to ensure that it's not. Pick colors that arn't yours (even if they're the best colors you can think of), etc. Big one -- make sure you list chapters in alphabetical order. That way, if someone doesn't like where thier chapter is you can always say "hey, it's alphabetacal."

However, her sending an e-mail as a rant is completely uncool. Send her an e-mail back saying that while you apreciate any input that would improve the site, you would apriciate it in the future if she aproached the situation in a more professional way. If she continues to act like that via e-mail, take it up with your greek advisor.

As for the NPC vs College Panhellenic ... she does have a point. NPC is National Panhellenic, and you're a college panhellenic. Just use the find& replace feature of whatever editor you're using to fix that, it'll make it go a lot faster. We do any banners at the top of the page as "DePaul Panhellenic Council" and the abriviation as DPC.

That being said, any work on a website for a group can be problematic. Here's what I've been doing to ensure that the work I'm doing on my school's panhellenic page goes as smoothly as possible:

1) check with your greek advisor to find out what you have to do to talk to people durring disafilliation, should communication become nessesary.

2) hold a planning meeting with anyone that's interested to ensure that the layout and information you have planned works for everyone and to smooth out as many bugs as possible. Trust me, someone saying "this has to be changed for X reason" goes over a lot better in person, as do any statements you make about how you WILL have the site.

3)Keep key people updated about site progress and what you need to complete the site.

Hope some of that was helpful!

I think at my school we use green and white for Panhellenic colors, if that helps you any. If you don't have colors, try using a combination that none of the sororities have.

I actually just did the website for our NPC... yes we just call it Panhel. I did most of the recruitment stuff in red, white, and blue which is our theme colors. Take a look...

One of my sisters designed my college's panhellenic website last year. It's in the college colors, although they happen to be maroon and white, which is similar to Alpha Phi. But, that could be an option for you if you don't want people asking why you chose the site's colors.

The site is not quite finished yet, but here's a link, if you want to see it: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~panhel/

BTW, I apologize for the improper terminology thrown about on this site. (Especially "rush," which is all over the place! ack! She should know better!)
