Say a prayer for a DG
My mom has been fighting breast cancer since December of last year...we thought she had just beat it, but she has since become very sick...here is an e-mail my dad just sent me:
--------------------------------------------------------
There really is no good way to tell you this, but your Mom is not doing
well.
Barbara's oncologist called this morning wanting to meet with her and me
about
the results of the CAT scan she had Friday. The results were not good.
The scan
revealed spots of cancer in her liver, lungs and spine. The doctor was
shocked at these results. Rarely does cancer grow and spread while a
patient is being treated with chemotherapy and radiation. The doctor
knew of only one instance where this had happened. The oncologist
thought the chemo and radiation would have put the cancer in remission,
but it didn't. All the blood work and testing during her treatments
provided no hint that this was happening. The doctor believes Barbara's
extreme nausea is being caused by the cancer in the liver.
The oncologist is scheduling a bone scan tomorrow and a brain scan on
Thursday; then will meet with us Thursday to discuss options. I wish I
could tell you there are lots of options, but the bottom line is there
really aren't many options. Statistically, patients in this condition
live less than two years. We will be seeing another oncologist on Friday
to get a second opinion.
Mom wanted me to try and keep this from you, but I thought you should
know. There is really nothing we can do. Life does goes on. We both want
you to try to stay focused on your school and studies. That is what will
make her the happiest.
------------------------------------------------------
I am in pieces right now and don't know what to do...she is an Eta DG...please keep her and my family in your thoughts and prayers.
CJ

Once again, I'm asking for prayers and warm thoughts. For the past few months, my mom has been slowly getting worse. They weren't even sure what was wrong. She can't really talk now, can't move around real well, and is basically bed-ridden. I'm 21 years old and terrified to say the least. Today was the first day that I have heard my dad cry since the beginning of all of this. I'm sure he has cried, but he tries to stay so strong infront of my brother and I, and infront of my mom. Well, he called today and the doctors are pretty sure the cancer has spread to her brain. There will be more tests tomorrow and into the weekend to determine the certainty of their suspecion. We are looking at anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months. I just thought I'd let everyone know.

In December, I, along with a couple of my other sisters, got the opportunity to meet CJ and her mother Barbara. It was a wonderful experience and a memory that will always be treasured.
CJ....the Akron girls are here for you and we are focusing all our prayers to your family. Your mother is a wonderful asset to our chapter and to Delta Gamma. We can only hope that she can pull through this. Stay strong and please keep us updated.
ITB,
Andrea

I've been at the hospital all day with my mom. She was admitted around 1 PM. She couldn't walk and can't talk. She is in a semi-comotose state. They did an MRI and the results showed no physical tumors in her brain. This is good. However, there are some forms of cancer that when they spread they do not form physical tumors, instead just inhabit many cells with-in an organ. They will be doing a spinal tap tomorrow morning to see is that is the case. They suspect that it is. They would like to put her in a hospice to provide the most comfort for her. My dad is a university professor and his schedule is somewhat flexible, but there is no way he can take care of her. He thinks this is for the best too. We will go look at the place tomorrow to make sure that is where we want her to go. It's been a terribly hard day for me...I have amazing support. The things that hurt the most are things I have not gotten to share with her...my wedding one day, children, etc. But I have gotten to share so much with her and for that I really am thankful. Everyone do me a favor and call your mom's just to tell them how much you love them. Please keep my family and myself in your prayers. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
Thank you again for the kind words and support. It's nice to have a place to go where I can say whatever is on my mind.
Love,
CJ

WhiteDaisy, all of my love and prayers to you and your family.
Thanks for reminding all of us what's important in this life.
Don't you worry sweetie, even if God wants her with Him, she WILL be there for your wedding, in your heart and through your father's eyes, she WILL share the moment with you. Please believe this.
