St Patricks Day

Okay, I'm from a line of Scot-Irish
I have the last names of McDonald-Doran-Spencer-Fincher in my family lines. . .

So, why am I the only person who isn't celebrating St Patrick's Day tonight but on MONDAY when St Patrick's Day is?

Usually we are on break over St. Patrick's Day, so the bars here have invented "UnOFfIcial St. Pat's" where they open at 8:00am and serve Green beer. Of course this year, we are in school for both days!

The funnier part is that unofficial always falls on the same day as the Engineering Open House, so the campus is crowded with a) drunk college kids and b) elementary schoolers learning about science.

Every St. Patrick's Day I hand out "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" buttons to my Mexican ESOL students to wear on their restaurant jobs. Hehe.

Cool

Well Ye Heathesn of everybody is Irish on St. Patricks Day!

But, Kansas City ha the 1-2-3 largest St. Paddies Day Parade

Today is Snake SAt. parade along with a pre- St Paddies day in Brookside! Two different Parades the same day! Both are well atended!

Mon. is the St Paddies day In KC! It used to be on the weekend but got so big, so fun, so boustrious that the PC was to do it on the day of the Festival! Cut down the drinking, Yea Right!

It was the largest until NY< NY got pissed and said NO< WE HAVE THE LARGEST IRISH!

I need a chorus of Screw NY , sing it to the heavens! Sorry To all GC NYers, you are different! Your are semi normal!

I'm 1/4 Irish, but not sure when I'll be able to celebrate - I'm working 8-6 on Monday and have class from 9-6 on Tuesday, so not sure when I'll have the time...but I'll probably squeeze in some green beer.

When I was in college St. Pats was HUGE! We were on semesters at the time, and the big schools around us (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State) had different Spring Breaks from us -- Generally starting on St. Pats' weekend. So, on their way to Florida, hundreds of them stopped in Athens on Friday and Saturday nights.

Unfortunately, the party generally turned into riots.

I have often suspected that one of the reasons Ohio University changed to the quarter system was to move Spring Break to cover St. Pattys weekend.

Now, the huge party is on Halloween.

Part II

Just in case you don't drink enough Monday, sundown M-sundown T marks a Jewish drinking holiday known as Purim. In fact, you are supposed to drink until you can't tell your right hand from your left.

Two excuses to get wasted... I'm sensing an impending mass conversion to Judaism among the GC'ers

Staying home this year. Already got the Guinness and the Irish whiskey

I'm about 1/3 Irish and LOVE St. Patrick's Day... this is the first year where I can (legally) go out and drink, but NOOOOO.... I HAVE A FINAL FROM 7-10 PM ON MONDAY!!!! I'm so angry about that! Oh well, maybe all of us who have that final will go out after and celebrate... it's a horrible class and I can't wait to get it over with!

Unfortunately we're on break for both St. Patrick's Day and Purim (we celebrated both last year) and almost nobody's here! . . . but we got an early start on St. Patrick's Day (had a green beer party last weekend) and we'll celebrate both again once everybody's back from break.
