Unhappy Bummed...just bummed...

Senior Aloha Night usually takes place at the last chapter meeting (which is next Tuesday). However, since we have no graduating seniors this semester we're not having one...

But, we found out last night that two of our sisters will be transferring to other schools next year because our university decided not to adopt their major. Thankfully, both have chosen schools with AGD chapters. Kristen will be at Florida State and Malia at Oregon State. From what I've heard they've already been in contact with the chapter presidents and it's a possibility that they may affiliate next year.

I'm sure most of you may have gone through this situation by now. It's especially difficult for me because Malia was one of my first AGD friends even before I became an AGD. What depresses me even more is that I find out about this today...our chapter meeting is next week...and there aren't too many days left until they leave Hawaii!

For those who have experienced this, how does one deal with it? I'm so sad . I checked the similies but there aren't any with a tear going down.

Last year we had three women leave for other schools. It was tough cause I loved them, but we still keep in touch and they still visit. One was a new member who hadn't been initiated. She ended up going to a school without AGD and pledging/initiating into Sigma Kappa, her sister is an AGD here so she was a legacy and that kind of hurt too. Time heals all wounds and your sisters rally together and you keep in touch. It works out, I promise.

OTW, if you don't mind my invasion of AGD space...

Keep in mind that these women will always be your sisters, and friends. While leaving is difficult for everyone, be supportive and understanding that they are moving on to pursue their major. Make a conscious effort to keep in touch-email, snail-mail and phone calls do make a difference! Plan a reunion for next year-and make reunions a tradition! Give them an I'll see you soon present, and not a going-away present. Lastly, if they plan on affiliating with their local chapter, maybe you can write a letter to the chapter, singing your friends' praises and ask them to 'keep an eye' on your friends. Don't be sad!

Unhappy

OTW, I just had to come here and be bummed with you. My best friend at work is leaving. He just told me today. I'm the only one who knows, so far - he is mulling over when to drop the bomb. I'm glad for him, because he has been stressed and upset lately, but I'll still miss him - we started at the company around the same time. I've been feeling super depressed for the last 2 days anyway, this really didn't help.

Fortunately, he will still be downtown, so we'll be able to get together for lunch & such, but it's still not the same. Change sucks big time.
