I LOVE urban legends! I swear, they need to make a college class out of them, that's a class I'd definitely ace! I can't even begin to name all of the urban legends I know, but there is this awesome website, www.snopes2.com, that tells you pretty much any urban legend you'd ever want to know or ever may have heard. It also tells if it's based off of fact or if it's just plain crap. There are even urban legends forming about the Sept.11th attacks. For example, Jackie Chan was suppoed to be on top of one of the WTC towers the morning of the attack, but got delayed for some reason and luckily he wasn't there. That one is true. Check it out, it's an awesome website! You can also go to Barnes and Noble or other bookstores and look under the Mythology/Folklore section, there are books about urban legends there, too.

I've always wanted to start an Urban Legend, because of my undying faith in the stupidity of the human race. People are so naieve, its fun to mess with them

I know, people can be really stupid believing some of those things. But it's also pretty funny how many of those things are actually true!

I frequently get these forwards from one of my sisters and they're usually about an Urban legend. I have directed her to that site.

There was an urban legend that my school - The University of Tennessee - could not beat the University of Florida on Florida's field. Well baby - 31 years later we finally beat them! After all these years of them playing dirty - good finally beat evil! LOL!
Sorry (kinda) to all you gator fans...but I used to twirl in the band, and when gator fans are trying to douse you with urine in pepsi cups while calling you things you couldnt imagine - you kinda tend to have negative feelings - I love everyone else in the SEC though

Excellent review in Friday's Wall Street Journal (this is my long weekend) that reviewed four of the more popular web sites devoted to urban legends.
In order of the rating given it by the Wall Street Journal:
4) About.com's Urban Legends Guide - one star;
3) UrbanLegends.com - 2.5 stars;
2) The Straight Dope - 3 stars;
1) Snopes.com - 4 stars.
The only one that I send you? The one that got four stars.
BREADTH:
"Snopes.com offers the most extensive collection of urban legends among the sites that we checked."
DEPTH OF INFORMATION:
"Site founders Barbara and David Mickelson research the answer to hundreds of legends, rather than relying on other Internet sites or news groups (Dan's translation = they read books), Snopes.com offers more background information and definitive answers on the veractiy of popular rumors than any other site we looked at."
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE:
"Although not as funny as some of the urban-legend sites, Snopes.com is entertaining because of its sheer size - almost any urban legend you have ever heard of is mentioned here."
OVERALL USEFULLNESS:
"Snopes.com is the easiest to use of the pages we reviewed: the categories are sensible and easy to navigate, the site is regularly updated and offers up-to-the-minute information on a variety of hoaxes."
But for the only one that you will ever need, click here for Snopes:

This is the same link AXiD4life has.

I have this one that i saved. I don't remember where i found it on the Web :
"Did you hear the one about the kid with the shaved head?
By Gary Borders / Cox News Service

LUFKIN, Texas -- A friend of mine told me this story the other day. An employee told him, and she heard it at the bank. All three people believed it to be true, because that's how it was related to them:
A mother and her five-year-old daughter were in a Lufkin store. I won't say which one. The mother turned around, and the child had disappeared. The mother wisely went to the front of the store and told the manager, who promptly locked the doors. They began to frantically search for the little girl. Finally they searched the bathroom . They found the girl with her head shaved, wearing a completely different set of clothes than she had originally worn. Luckily, she was unharmed, except for the shaved head.
The assumption was that someone was attempting to kidnap the girl by changing her appearance and then planned to spirit her out of the store."

Ya, I got an urban legend for ya'll, it's a bit...well, cruel, but funny nonetheless.
This supposedly happened to a friend of a friend of mine, which means I don't believe it for a second, and neither should you. But, here goes...
There was a couple who were high school sweethearts. They graduated high school and ended up going away to different colleges.
He missed her, she found someone else and cheated on the guy. She told him this and proceeded to break up with him. He still loved her though and proceeded to send her at least 1 letter a week for the next 2 months. At first, the girl put up with it, but eventually, she thought he was being obssessive and tried a tactic she thought might get him out of the pic for good. She went down on her new guy and had him snap a polaroid of it, which she then sent to her ex along with the caption "He was much better than you anyway! LEAVE ME ALONE!"
Somewhat shocked , pissed and hurt at recieving such a letter, her exboyfriend made a color laser copy of the pic after erasing the caption. He then added a new caption which read. "Mom and Dad, I'm having fun at college, SEND MONEY!" He then mailed a copy of this to her parents, her sorority, the dean of her college and posted it on the internet.
Do I buy this? Not for one sec, but its a great story, and I'd shake the dudes hand for that, which was a completley tasteless and brutal act. But ladies, I guess it goes to show ya, NEVER insult a guy's performance wtihout expecting some sort of revenge, at least according to urban legend.

"It was easy to tell who was rushing the first week of school. At 11 PM you would see large groups of girls dressed like skanks walking down the dorm halls towards Sorority Row. Even the girls on their way to the clubs didn't dress that bad. They quickly earned the name SoHo's."
ouch.

Walk into any Wal-Mart store and you will see this. On the main doors there will be a sticker (approx 6in long by 4 in tall) that says "CODE*ADAM". Named for Adam Walsh, John Walsh's son, who was kidknapped and murdered. John Walsh is the host of American's Most Wanted. Anyways, if a child is lost in the store a "CODE ADAM" is put out over the PA system. All doors are locked are guarded, the aisles are searched one by one, until the child is found.
Just thought you would like to know.

This one circulated when my daughter was a Sophomore-
There was a young innocent girl who met and fell for a guy. They dated and he kept asking her to go to bed with him. Because she intended to save herself for marriage, she refused even though she was falling deeply in love with him. After several months of growing closer and closer to him, he asked her to marry him and she said yes. That night was the most wonderful night she had known and because she felt so close to him and knew they were to be marred, she gave in and they made love. The next day, she decided to drive home and tell her parents the happy news. He gave her a gift and made her promise not to open it until she was home. When she pulled into the driveway, she couldn't wait any longer. She opened the box. There was a beautiful antique doll with a hand writen tag on it's wrist. She read the note.
"Welcome to the world of AIDs".

I read on one urban legend page, if you pour salt water down the change slot of a vending machine, it will make all of the sodas come out!
