advice!!!!!!

hello to all the lovely ladies of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA and fellow SISTERFRIENDS, i am new to the forum but ive read several post, a lot of them were old so forgive me if i bring up old topics i just need a "new" and more personal perspective.

PLEASE FORGIVE THE LENGTH, ITS A FIRST TIME THING AND ILL TRY TO NEVERRR DO IT AGAIN KAY!!


i know for a FACT that AKA is in my heart, i have a notebook full of AKA "stuff" (i.e. history, faqs) in it and i am preparing my self to the best of my ability. dont get me wrong though right now school is number one because i am a new freshmen who should have done much better 1st semester, anyway, i convinced my boyfriend to pledge aphia, and he is (will be crossing in april), i got him in with the fraternity through a member i used to talk to! ive been hereing a lot of crazy talk that just because he is an alpha and i am his girlfriend that people will atomatically think i want to be an AKA (which is true). how can i be discreet with all this hoopla going on, but thats not it, okay... since middle school i have had the nickname PRETTYNPINK or PIP, when i got to college i realized that it was a line name for AKAs, people start telling me i should drop the nickname (thats y my name here is now confidant) its cool but its hard when literally everything i own is pink (literally!) all the gifts i get is pink, family and friends associate everything that has to do with me with pink. when im on campus and i have pink on from head to toe, i am always afraid to approach an AKA to let her know i am interested, i actually find myself trying to dodge them so they wont remember my face with all pink on esp. for when my boyfriend crosses. i cannot afford to change my whole wordrob(?) and apt. just to satisfy this, even though i plan to gradually get out of pink because im "big girl now" :-)! what should i do? also i put an interest form in at the student life office and i realized after i turned it in that my email address is prettynpinkpip, i havent gotten a response back yet do u think it offends them?

Number one you should search old threads and read about other young ladies who have been in similiar situations, this should answer most of your questions. Also check out the "Pearls of Wisdom" thread (in fact do that first). Since you are a freshman I am assuming that explains alot of your misconceptions such as preparing yourself with history(AKA's know THE history), AKA being in your heart at this point(not even),and this whole AKA's have the monopoly on the color pink, just read, observe and use common sense and discretion when facing any endeavor in life.

as i said in the beginning, i have read old threads but i wanted "new" perspectives and more personal to fit my specific situation, second, i was told by a member (older) to know history do research also by every other AKA i have talked to! as for AKA being in my heart that is something i wll be the judge of for the time being! i know AKAs dont own the color pink but if i came up to you in pink from head to toe and everyday you saw me i had on pink and you just happened to see my apartment, how would u react?

Here in GC, the sisterfriends on the Ave. look out for one another. I feel the need to step up and throw a few words of wisdom out there for ya.

1. As Wonderful08 has stated, peep the Pearls (of Wisdom). They are helpful and you should make yourself familiar with them.

2. In case you missed these parts in the POW when you were reading old threads, here are some key points:

Subject matters NOT discussed here:
*Membership/Intake
*ABC sorority or fraternity

MEMBERS AND SFs, please remember that DISCRETION IS ALWAYS KEY!

Note: That "DISCRETION" point should be STRICTLY adhered to.

3. To my knowledge, there are no "new" perspectives on membership. The rules haven't changed. What was true in '92 remained true in '02. Those old threads are still as helpful as they were when I first started out.

4. Wouldn't we all (sisterfriends) like personalized responses to our situations? However, it's not gonna happen like that. Again, as Wonderful08 stated, read, observe, and use common sense. All things worth knowing and figuring out, WILL be revealed in due time.

5. Although there is no monopoly on the color pink, I would suggest that you lighten up on it. Refrain from referencing "pink" in screen names, e-mail addresses, etc. *Also stated in the POW: DO NOT USE AKA, 08 or anything that is indicative of Alpha Kappa Alpha in your SCREEN NAME, if you are NOT a member!

6. I know that you are excited, but do not play yourself... You'll figure out what I mean. Take a breather, make yourself at home, and good luck on your pursuit.

Oh no she didn't!

That was my first thought when reading that. I am one of the more "milder" AKA's on greekchat. I don't feel the need to even give advice however I realized in your post you were confused and still are. Since I am SURE you must be suggesting that AKA being in your heart is something you think you want to be part of, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. AKA is in MY heart and it does not truly begin until after you EARN your letters (notice I said earn) so I take offense to that. I think my sorors and I are better judges on that than you. When I was a SF I used to see sorors "check" SF' s for what I thought was silly stuff. Now that I am a member, I know how serious and personal it means to be in my sorority. I would hate for you to be somewhere on your campus dressed from head to toe in pink claiming AKA is in your heart.
