Sportsmanship goes down?

In case you all missed it;

A couple of nights ago, Ricky Davis, a shooting guard for the Cleveland Cavs was a rebound short of a triple double (10 or more of three of the following: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks). With a few seconds left, in a game his team was up by 20+ points, Davis inbounded the ball and attempted to SHOOT THE BALL AT THE OTHER TEAM'S BASKET; the thought being that he'd miss, get the rebound, and get the triple double. One of the Utah Jazz players fouled him though, and he didn't get the chance to do it.

Now, here's the question: Should he be suspended by the league for the act, by his team, by both (the Cavs coach announced today that Davis would not be suspended)? How low is this on the scale of sportsmanship? Or are people just making too much out of it?

Leave thoughts here.

Collin

I don't think he should be suspended for it, but that was selfish, what a jerk.

I don't think he should be suspended, but i agree with Coach Sloan that if I had been out there i'd have knocked him on his ass.

Another vote for stupidity and selfishness, but no suspension.

Does it even count as a rebound if you shoot at the other team's basket??? Weird!

See, I wouldn't even be proud of a triple double if I had to go through all that to get one. What a zero.

Actually, it's against the rules to shoot at the other team's basket; the other team is awarded two foul shots if you do (and I think maybe possession, but I'm not sure).

It's an obscure rule, but as David Aldridge brought up in his column, when you've been playing basketball as long as Davis has, you should know there's something fishy about doing that.
