I read on the rush board about a married rushee and some of the AGD's responses made me wonder...
ok, I know my chapter intiated married women, and if you get married then you have the option of going alum status. What about pregnancy?
I'm starting to get a little riled about this. When I went alum status it was because my advisor TOLD me to. She said I didn't have an option, since I was pregnant I had to go alum or be kicked out. Is this true? or was I completely lied to? The only reason I went alum was because I didn't want to lose my beloved AGD affiliation! We had the money and believe me until the baby was born I had the time......ugh.....the more I think about this the more I feel like she cheated me out of at least 7 more months of being a collegian! What do y'all think?

Your advisor did not necessarily lie to you. At one time, a pregnant collegiate member had to take alumna status. I believe that the rule was only relatively recently overturned--possibly at the 1999 convention.
Will the ladies on the VST please correct me if I am wrong?
We also have threads on the Alpha Gam board which already discuss this topic. If you do a search, I'm sure you will find them. I will go look, too.

right, I knew that there WAS a rule, but I didn't know until now it had been overturned. What I don't get is that this advisor most likely KNEW that it had been overturned since she is a self claiming all knowing Alpha Gam.....
Especially since this was such a big debate back in '93 or whenever I would think that advisors would know this, thats why they are advisors!
To clear this up a little bit - I love being an alum! its all the perks without the price I just wish I could have served my sisters more.....before she actually approached me with removal, she somehow persueded chapter council to remove me from office since "my priorities were squed (sp?)"

There are still many MANY ways that you can serve your sisters as an alumna. Join a Junior Circle, be an advisor, apply to serve on the VST. Heck, paying your International Alumnae Dues or donating to the Foundation is another HUGE way of serving your sisters, because it keeps our programming, scholarships, and philanthropy intact.
You are only a collegiate member for a few years, but you are an alumna member for the rest of your life!!! Many of the Alpha Gams on GC have found a "new lease on AGD life" as an alum. Don't let one negative experience color the adventures you have yet to undertake!

oh no I'm not bitter with AGD not at all! It was just that particular person and I that butted heads.....what really stinks is that 2 months after booting me out, her husband left her (since she slept with OTHER married men to get pregnant!! ) and she up and left to Colorado with no one for Fall Rush!
I think she had uterus envy
that teeny tiny fact aside -
I have contacted my junior circle here, but making it to my first meeting with an active 5 month old, full time job, school, my hubby's full time job and his school has been difficult! So far my AGD activities this semester has been here on GC!
I am FOR SURE going to Feast of Roses April 24th though in Plano yay!

I got pregnant my senior year and didn't have to go alum. I don't know what I would have done without my chapter. The literally keep me in one piece. They know who they are and they know that I love them!!! If I was told that I had to go alum I don't think that I could have handled it!
Thank the Lord for Theta Upsilon!!

MereMere, the advisor could have been having personal issues and she could have been very confused. When I first joined AGD their was a girl in another GLO here and she was forced out of her chapter and I remember asking the LC we had here what our stance was and she was iffy on the subject also. Though this was in the winter of 2000 and the change was new.
I am sorry that this had happen to you. What part of Texas are you located in? I know that we are starting an Alumnea chapter and that there are many positions that can be done whenever there is time to spare. (You could looking into your local alumna chapter or club.) For example, editor of the newsletter, webmistress, working to keep the address changes up-to-date, etc. And just being there is another big part of the alumnea life, going to Initation, Feast of Roses, IRD, and rededication, along with helping with Rush activities. I am like you in that I am a recent alumna and am also trying to feel my way into this big wide world of post colligate life.
Good luck with it all and I would love to see a picture of your 5 month old. We should have a website attached to this site for pictures.
