Going from Local to National

I am President of a local sorority in the small town of North Adams Massachusetts. We were established in 1975 and have struggled with many issues and obstacles since the beginning. Presently, we struggle with some of the worst that stem from competition with other sororities during the rush period and a 3 year residency requirement at our college. The sisters have since become very interested in becoming affliated with a national organization. If you or someone you know has information on how we can begin this process we would greatly appreciate it. Greeks are a dying group here and in order to continue the traditions, memories, and the lifetime bonds, we need to take the next step.

Please contact the National Panhellenic Conference, or go to their website www.npcwomen.org. On that website, it will explain how to start the process of affiliating with a inter/national organization.

Are there other local sororities on your campus who are also looking to affiliate with an NPC? Or are they already NPC?

My local jsut became a colony of TPA, I just recently went thur this process. So if you have ayn questions as you begin thsi process PM & i will try my best to help you out.

CONGRATS ON COLONY STATUS!!! My interest group has been working to recolonize the Rho chapter of Theta Phi Alpha here at Penn State for 2 years now. However it has been a long hard battle because our campus isn't open for expansion so we are currently operating "underground" as a local. We have almost 30 members, and after first-round cuts have 24 rushes.

I have met many Theta Phi's these past 2 years and they are all so great! You've just gotten a great group of sisters! CONGRATULATIONS!

Christina,
If your campus has other NPC groups, you will need to start with your office of Greek Life or the Panhellenic Office on your campus. They will have to approve expansion before you contact groups about affiliating. If all your groups are local, you may still need to discuss "going national" with someone at your school, but you can contact the National Panhellenic Council who will then put something in their newsletter so that any NPC group interested in expanding to you campus will know about it.
