Angry car dealerships are boo boo heads!!

i am venting some frustration that i have been keeping inside. on april 14th i got a BEAUTIFUL silver 2 door 2003 honda accord. this car had it all. i was living in luxury. i went through a lot to get it. after i got out of school, i had to drive to the honda dealership in orlando. this is after i had to stop in ocala, a little town 45 min away from gainesville, to get my dad. so we get to orlando at 5:30. after all was said and done, i got to leave at 11:00. so that means i got home at about 1:30 a.m. keep in my the fact that i had a paper due the next day, so i had to wake up at 6 a.m. to finish. but i didnt mind, i got a new car.

fast forward two weeks...
my sister got a new car the same day- a honda civic. she gets a call from the dealership while she was at work. they were demanding that we bring the cars back because we didnt give them any money. WTF??? we gave you the down payment, the monthly payment isnt due for another three weeks!!! so we contact out dad in ocala and he is pissed. he later told us that he and the guy from the dealership got into a heated arguement.
at 3 p.m. that afternoon, i find out that i have to drive my car down to ocala that day and give back my new car and pick up the old car that my dad had waiting for me. (lol...too confusing)
the whole thing just pissed me off. why do dealerships let you leave with a new car letting you think everything is alright and then tell you 2 WEEKS later that you no longer approved?!

sorry so long.. i am just still pissed about it. this happened last wednesday.

ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT on the sales contract/financing information.

Not only can they demand the car back should you not "qualify" for the loan (you can always get qualified through other sources if necessary, such as Bar None)...but, they can also charge you SERIOUS money on a daily basis, to in effect "rent" the vehicle pending financing. Chances are, they will deduct charges for borrowing the vehicle from your downpayment amounts.

I've heard too many stories like this. When we bought our minivan (sign that I'm getting too old!) two years ago - I refused to drive it off the lot until we closed on financing.

There must be something wrong with that. If the car dealer made the mistake of forgetting to check for certain things, that is his mistake. However, I cannot believe that happened. I mean, one of the first things they do is check if they can finance you right?

Did you ever find out what happened? I mean come on! This is making me upset for you. I would atleast hope they returned your down payment. Also, weren't there papers that shows you signed and were approved, and how much money you paid for down payment?

By the way, the new honda 2 door accords are so cool!

See, I figured that was a requirement. I thought that you couldnt leave until all that was done and closed!

I HATE THE SYSTEM!!! due to the fact that it was late at night, they just wanted to get the deal done. they even told us that it was against policy to get two cars (me and my sister) in one night. but they were going to make it work anyway. my dad is going to help me get my dream honda car in a few months WITH ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. not those idiots in orlando. to top it all off, i had to take my current car in today for a 60,000 mile service to find out late that i need brand new brakes too cause my old one were squeaking and i have to break really hard to get it to stop on time. so i have to pay $400 dollars of my hard earned money. i am waiting on the people to get done with it right now. i wouldnt have to if i had my new car. damn those salesmen.

Oh, not a requirement at all. Dealerships get revenue any way they can. If a deal is "iffy" due to credit concerns, or if the salesperson is having difficulty talking someone into buying the car, they allow you to "borrow" it - but you do sign documents that you are responsible, AND, what charges are accrued on a daily basis that YOU are responsible for should you return the car, or financing fall through, etc....they still get some money out of you, if at all possible.

I'm so sorry.

I, too, thought you couldn't leave 'til finances were taken care of.

this actually isn't all that uncommon..a few months ago my brother bought a used honda from a dealership in santa fe, he has no credit so he had to have my dad cosign..no problem, drove off the lot w/the car that day..a week later he had to give the car back...same thing happened w/my good friend..she got a brand new kia, has bad credit, they let her take the car and called her back a few days later and told her thye couldn't get her the financing on the car they gave her, but they could on a different model..

thinking back, i was damn lucky that it didn't happen to me..i moved my new car across the country 5 days after i bought it.

Check out www.carbuyingtips.com. The site is a little hokey in design, but it covers a lot of the fast ones certain dealers pull.

A quote: "Subject To Financing..."
This clause appears on buyers orders that we sign for a car. It means the deal is not done yet, even you think you are signing a contract. Then 2 weeks later the dealer calls you up and says "your car loan fell through." Why is that? They ran your credit report, right? They knew what you would qualify for. This is a common loan scam. You should not buy a car first then worry about financing. You don't do it with a house, so why do it with a car? When you buy a house, you MUST have your home loan in order first, so have your car loan in order before you shop for cars.

I just bought a new car and couldn't be happier - at the second dealership I tried. The first one was so slimy I'm still washing myself off.
