pearl jam?

Okay, I was just on ticketmaster's website looking for something and I saw that pearl jam is going through ticketmaster to sell tickets for their upcoming tour. Does anyone know when they ended their boycott of ticketmaster? I checked it out and they are in fact charging a service fee which is what the band was opposed to. Anyone know anything about this? Did the band just abandon what they stood for and stopped caring about their fans?

unfortunately their experiment with their own ticket agencies did not go so well. also, i belive clear channel, which pretty much own almost convert venue out there, have an agreement with ticket master. so if they want to play in a lot of places, they have to dance with ticketbastard, i meant ticketmaster. i belive u can get cheaper ticket through their fan club 10. BTW, got the cds yet?

er, this is sorta unfair . . . the bottom line, according to Vedder in interviews, was that if they continued without ticketmaster they felt they were screwing their fans worse, as they would be playing in hole-in-the-wall clubs instead of thousand-seat arenas. The difference between 12,000 fans being able to attend, vs 150, became the issue - ticketmaster has that kind of pull.

I'd say it was less "stopped caring about fans" and more "decided this was the lesser of two evils"

It's almost impossible for a band that has as large of a fanbase as Pearl Jam to tour without using Ticketmaster. If anyone remembers their 1996 tour when they used another ticket source, it was almost a disastor. They had to play a smaller venues so many of their fans couldn't get a ticket. Also, there was a big issue with someone in the ticketing company who stole the credit card information of the concert goers. I remember getting my statement a month after their concert to see someone had bought gas and McDonald's somewhere in Pennsylvania. Stuff like that rarely or never happens with Ticketmaster.
Like Arya said, you can buy tickets cheaper through the Ten Club except I think you have to be a member for over a year to get tickets.
This year, ticket prices are VERY high. At the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, tickets are running from $38-42 without all the service charges! I went to their concert at Coral Sky in 1998 and the ticket was only $26 without the charges. That's a huge price difference.
