Convention 2003
Congrats to all the chapters that won awards at this year's Annual Convention.
I think a record # of chapters won the Knox this year (5) including three first time winners: Idaho, Saint Louis U. and Truman State. Nebraska and Miami earned the award for the second consecutive year. (This was our third Knox total).
Did anyone go to convention from GC?

Beta Psi Chapter (at West Virginia University) won the Sisson Award as well as Campus Involvement!!!
Congrats to all winners, and I fully support the "Upon these Principles" program.

what other news from convention? anyone hear anything in terms of new charters, closed chapters, other important news, etc?
On a side note, we have 3 verbal commits for next years rush already (and our rush doesnt start till january!). 2 of the 3 are legacies. even though I'm now an alum looking on it from the outside, its still exciting

I'd too be interested in any other convention news...i.e., what chapters were closed, were any charters granted, any new colonies or prospect colonies....etc., etc. We all know that Beta's expansion is slow at best, I'd like to see at least 10 colonies.
I'd really like to know whats happening with UNC-Eta chapter. They were shut down a few years back for not doing the ritual in 20 years, but they still exist on that campus (known as the Eta Society), still wearing Beta letters and still have a HUGE campus presence.
-kai- guys.
PS, Jerzee, as a new alumni, don't lose your Beta spirit. There is a third handle to the Loving Cup for that exact reason: Alumni.

I haven't heard anything else. The GF website looks nice but it seems like there are still a lot of bugs and who knows when all of those are going to be fixed. I can't understand why they launched a new website the week before Convention.
If anyone hears anything thing, please let us know!

My own personal opinion of the new website; I think it is a step backward, not forward by any means. The navigation of the site is horrible, pictures (.gifs and .jpgs) are thrown everywhere on the page, and it just looks like it was a puzzle thrown together. Besides that, for a 'new' website, it has no 'new' technology at all. The page is brand new and already looks three years old.
Working in the Tech. Industry myself, I know my company will test, re-test and test again before we launch a new version of any of our products - especially web products. This new site should be shut down or replaced by the old site until it is 100%.
I am bummed.....

convention news
this is what I heard from one of my boys:
- east carolina, st.louis and uconn all got charters approved
- NO chapters were kicked out and in fact, most chapters on warning status were bumped up
I dont know about any of the expansion news except that Indiana, CSU and Vatech are supposed to be the 3 big ones for this year. I heard that from Jud Horras a few months ago
we need more colonies!
can anyone verify/add more to the news?
btw, the website sucks in my mind. look at sae's new site. now that is a kick-ass modern page. also, why dont we have more expansion info readily available. its probably a turn off to potential interest groups

I'm willing to bet that it has everything to do with the way in which we have created colonies since the Men of Principle Initiative.
I know last year my small group leader (who gave teh undergrad address during one of the dinners) made a huge deal out of the fact that schools were inviting us to form colonies. I agree that it's great in this day of age to have Universities seeking out us when they choose to expand, but I think it has closed some in the GF to the concept of interest groups being viable options for colonies.
As for the number, hopefully we have enough to make sure that the consultants helping the colonies are constantly busy, but not so much that they are slacking in quality of service they are providing. I think that one of our biggest strengths right now is our success rate for colonies and reorganizations becoming productive chapters. Comparing us to Kappa Sig (where my 2nd cousin is Chapter Prez) I know that our GF is doing a lot more for our colonies than what KappaSig was doing for my cousin and his chapter.
