50 or So Ways to Love Black Folk

I believe that the greatest problem facing Black people today
is the lack of love for ourselves. Nearly every other issue that we
deal with either started or continues because of the self-love
hatred, distrust and inferiority we have been taught for nearly 500
years.
If you don't love yourself, you won't unite or cooperate with
anything that is like you. Hating others does not generate love for
oneself or one's people. Hate is contagious when practiced. But so is
Love.
Once we love ourselves as individuals and collectively, a lot
of other things will come naturally to us. Our own creativity and
genius will kick in and invent unheard of ways to unify and advance
us.
Since love is a verb (action word), we offer you a
little "starters kit" for folks who want to know how to love Black
people more. So here it is, "50 Ways to Love Black People."

1. Each day, tell yourself that you are a wonderful being, created
and blessed by God.
2. Tell children around you that they are beautiful, that their
eyes, noses, lips, skin and hair are beautiful gifts from their
Creator.
3. Write someone in prison. ("But I don't know anybody in
prison.") First, check your family, your 'hood, or church. Then call
or write us. We have a list.
4. Remind Black women that they are Queens and geniuses.
5. Remind Black men that they are Kings and sages.
6. Remind Black children that they are powerful mentally,
spiritually and physically.
7. Get a vision for your own life, write it down and pursue it
with all your might. (Does that count as three?)
8. Encourage all of your friends to get a vision and pursue it.
9. Clean up your neighborhood.
10. Spend at least half of all your income with Black businesses.
11. Join a Black organization and actually work!
12. Listen to, assist and show major respect to our Elders.
13. Get positive Black music and play it loud!
14. Competitive? Have a daily contest to see who can say the most
positive things to and about Black people. (I think we have an
Olympics category here.)
15. Respond to gossip and put downs with uplifting commentary.
16. In your mind, see a positive future for Black people and hold on
to that picture.
17. Hug a thug. Remind them that they are still ours, that we love
them, believe in them and expect more of them.
18. Pray for Black people to manifest our full potential.
19. Research Afrikan names and take one for yourself.
20. Give meaningful Afrikan names to your friends and family.
21. Study Black history and culture. Share your knowledge with
others.
22. Give Black books as gifts.
23. Give Black greeting cards for special occasions.
24. Find positive Black videos and show them to your friends.
25. Publicly thank God for your Blackness!
26. When writing, use a capital "B" in Black to refer to our ethnic
group. (Yes, it violates their rules, but not ours.)
27. Donate pictures of a Black Jesus to a church that has none.
28. Form a study group in a home.
29. Start a buying club or food co-op.
30. Start a community garden.
31. Volunteer at a public school.
32. Take children to a public library and show them books about us.
33. Buy all the positive Black newspapers and magazines in your city.
34. Read them.
35. Smile at Black people who always frown.
36. Get a Black-oriented "screen-saver" for your computer.
37. Get your GED or Diploma.
38. Visit a new Black business every week and tell others about it.
39. Donate Black art or other supplies to a community center.
40. Finish the damned degree! Then go out and run something.
41. Have prayer for your neighborhood at your home.
42. Volunteer some time at a Black business. A few hours goes a long
way.
43. Take children or youth to visit a college campus. (A Black one,
where feasible.)
44. Learn and live the values of our Ancestors.
45. Deliberately overdo it when complimenting Black children and
adults.
46. Forgive Black people (including yourself) for all the stupid
stuff we do.
47. Admit your own mistakes and drown their memory in successes.
48. Criticize only when necessary, only constructively, and only
with some encouragement added.
49. Help folks in need without becoming a crutch for them.
50. Buy Black pictures and place them on your walls.
51. No matter how bad things look for us, Keep the Faith! NEVER,
EVER GIVE UP ON BLACK PEOPLE!
52. Let nothing stop you. Spend every waking hour working and
fighting to restore our awesome, precious people to their rightful...
What's that?
