Pop up ads

Does anyone know of any website where you can download something to block these damned things? I feel like the guy in that commercial who's fighting the ads off. "Seven point this!" Also, is it just me or does GC seem to have more popup ads lateley?

THis thing is PERFECT. It blocks every pop up, and when you want a pop up to show you just refresh and hold down CTRL

I got it from another GCer

I would also consider using Lavasoft's Ad Aware program. It takes off spyware from your computer and the junk you get from Net programs like Weatherbug and Kazaa.

You can find Ad Aware at www.download.com

I remember getting this from LeslieAGD a while back:

http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...etwork/pow.htm

It's a browser add-on...and everytime you get a pop-up, go to POW to double-click on that so you never get to see it again! I've slammed 1517 pop ups to date!

Yeah, like Sandy said, POW! works pretty well for me.

Also, go to "Preferences" or "Properties" in your web browser. Some of them have a section for advertisements...make sure you check "no" to receiving pop-up ads. I use Opera and since doing that I haven't received pop-ups for them...but, I still use POW! for the others.

Pop ups have gotten SO outa control! If anyone has instant messanger, and you go to one of those profile makers, such as the one I use subprofile.com, you'll have 20 pop ups just flyin everywhere. It's worse when you're using AOL cuz then you have to scroll all over your computer to find where it popped up!

I don't ever get any pop up ads from GC. I think its the only place I go on the internet that DOESN'T bombard me with them....

Zone Alarm Pro blocks most pop ups but more importantly it is a firewall. If you are on the Internet you should be using a firewall. www.zonealarm.com

If anyone is still living on campus using a ResNet connection, I wouldn't recommend this - it blocked most of the web servers on my campus, we got a lot of calls because of it. I think almost every university has firewalled their connection, and if you are off-campus you can just get a router with a firewall.

Ad-Aware is really good, from my experience.

GreekChat doesn't have any pop-up advertising. If you are getting pop-up ads while viewing GC it is most likely due to some kind of other program on your computer that is bringing up the ads.

If you see any more pop-up ads while on GC, please take a screenshot and email it to me at john@greekchat.com

I would like to find out what company & software is doing this.

Thanks,

- John

I'll second that one. Ad Aware is great.

DO NOT get Zonealarm. It does work fairly well as a firewall but if you ever install it you'd better be comfortable manually editing your registry. I had to completely reinstall my OS because of an installation of Zonealarm gone wrong.

I have Pop-up Stopper on my computer. I worked great before the virus. When I reloaded everything to my computer, the ads started coming. I'll have to try some of the ones y'all listed. Thanks!

On some of the ads, there is a message from an ad stopper. There is a link to their site. Amazingly, there is a charge for this service. I wonder how they got their name on the ads?!?
