Any Thoughts?
Hey girls---
This is something that I've discussed with quite a few people (both sisters from my chapter) and other greeks in their respective GLO's.....Do a lot of people visit houses in the cities they are visiting? For ex. as some of you remember, I was/am discussing some of my sisters and I going to visit some GCers at the U of Akron, and that would be a road trip designed to visit them. But discussing with other people, have any of you gone to visit family, or just on a vacay and stopped and visited a DG house in the city you are visiting? Is that generally welcomed or do people feel put out? We don't really have that problem, being as we don't have a house (just a suite in a campus building) so I don't know how often it happens, if at all. Are there protocols you have to follow? I don't know, it's bugged me for awhile and I am planning another spring break trip to Gettysburg (yeah yeah, im a history teaching major make your jokes ) and was thinking about maybe stopping by, but I'd have my dad with me (its just him and i taking this trip) so I don't think I should leave him to go visit sisters (esp sisters that may feel put out by me being there in the first place)
Any thoughts??
ITB,
Mandie

I know some gals who drove to Oxford, Miss., on a whim...arrived about 4 a.m. and, by luck, there was a DG outside saying good night to her boyfriend who let them in and even let them crash on her floor.
But don't depend on that. It's a home, so the polite thing to do would be to call, ask if you could visit and tell the person about what time you will arrive. And then arrive when you said you would. Be sure to get the person's name, or ask them to arrange for someone to meet you. DG policy is for ALL housing to be locked at all times - safety, you know.
A young alum (below 30) told me that she and 3 other sisters took off during spring break and visited DG houses in Louisiana & Texas (including the one with a pool). But they did write or call in advance and arrange to visit and stay at the houses. That way they also found out what schools were on break the same time.

That's my chapter! It was great to have a pool - especially in the Austin heat at the beginning and end of the school year. After class all the girls would go lay out or hang by the pool. I don't know if you can tell from the picture but there's a mosaic anchor in the middle of the pool on the bottom. Kinda cool. As for other chapters have pools, the Thetas at UT did, and the ADPis had a courtyard fountain, but that was it. I don't believe it's that common otherwise!

We've had girls stop by our chapter just to check out the house and say hey, and we've had a few come up and stay with us as well. No one ever really felt put out because the ones that were staying overnight were in town with actual things to do, not just looking to be entertained.
oh, and FYI - Gettysburg doesn't have sorority houses.

We've had girls from Western Michigan stop by on the way back from Spring Break and we just happened to have the chapter at the house because it was chapter retreat. We welcomed them and let them stay with us and it was a good time all around.
What I normally do is contact the president or someone from the chapter I know I am going to be near and let them know that I would like to stop by. For example, I was in Columbus for the Recruitment Seminar this past weekend and I had contacted OSUs DG President and told her that my director of COB and I would be in town and would like to see the house. We got there and the president wasn't there but some of the girls knew we were coming so they showed us around.
I guess its just a courtesy thing

You didn't happen to be snowed in, did you? our girls that went to EO for the seminar ended up getting snowed in, and I don't know when they finally got out.

No we didn't get snowed in. Ashley and I left the hotel about 1pm and we missed all the crazy snow. It was a pain to drive back here though because the roads were sooo wet. We ended up not having school on Monday because of the snow and then we had Tuesday off for President's Day....so I was definately excited about that! I figured some people would get stuck there...that stinks.
