Coca Cola real: The New Ads
Have you all seen the campaign with Mya and Common?
I've seen the long and short versions....
Coke has done it again! They have a great marketing team. (IMO)

Coca-Cola has taken over my MSN intro page! They know how to get the public's attention. I guess that's why they are the real thing!

Coca Cola Real Ads
Greetings Sorors,
I think that the Coca Cola ads are interesting to say the least. I find it very funny that captalists can take something so authentic particuarly an artist such as Common and use it to market a soda in popular culture. I find that whenever things that are "real" are introduced into the popular culture there is a sense of lost authenticity. However in this type of society I don't know if that can be prevented. I found myself equally distrubed when I saw the commercial with the Roots and Coke and the Nike "Umi Says" commercial, borrowing the song from Mos Def. All in all, I give Common big ups for getting his paper and I hope that this can be used as a tool to help spread his really dope music/message even more.
Shameless Plug *Go and pick up his latest the Electric Circus, he has this song that is titled Between, Me You, and Liberation where he speaks on things most MCs don't dare touch, this brother is really gifted.*

Common or Mos Def? Either one, I am getting it.
I think that Common is doing the right thing by being in the ads. At first, I was a little put off by the fact that Mos had allowed his song to go "mainstream" being that he prided himself on being "indy" or whatever. However, his career has soared since then, but guess what? He has not lost his touch of reality (at least, not that I have noticed). He seems to still be as real and in touch with his beginnings as the day that he started.
Why should people "hate" (I can't stand this word!) on them because they are trying to make their money? The way that I see it, they are also exposing a whole new side of things to pop culture and the majority of our population. How many White Americans have ever taken the time to listen to and feel artists like Common and Mos Def? Who would have ever thought that Black Americans could take over Broadway and rack up Tonys in its wake? I give them props and hope that they continue spreading their knowledge. It's about time we see positive artists in TV spots instead of clown that have to sell 40 ozs. and fried chicken.

Yes that's her. I think she is even wearing a shirt in the commercial that says "Amel" so people would know it was her, LOL.
