Question FAWCO - Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (sorority-like?)

Hi there,

I know that we have discussed "sorority like" groups such as Junior League, PEO Sisterhood and D.A.R. --
Here's one more! Below is the website for your interest....
http://www.fawco.org/

I just learned of this organization yesterday and I wished that I had known about it sooner! If I had known about it when I was in Melbourne, Australia for 5 months, I would have joined for sure. (And with me being a Canadian, women of non-American nationalities are "allowed" to have associate membership as a “Friends of Americans” (FOA) Yay!).

Do any of you know of women who have been involved with American Women's Clubs? Is it something like the Junior League?
Discuss!

I joined the American Women's Club and also the American Society while working in London about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, for me it was a waste of money! I worked long hours and then had to commute a long distance on top of that, so I never had time to participate in any of the activities. I never went to ANY of them - not because I didn't want to, but due to a sheer lack of time on my part.

I did receive a monthly newsletter with all the activities for the American Women's Club - looked like mainly a social club, lots of fun things to do, but geared mainly toward the "ladies who lunch" brigade. Weekends were the only time I had free, and they never had anything planned then!

I was a member of both clubs for one year, and didn't renew my membership when asked. I think it would've been more useful when we first moved to England and I wasn't working, and was looking to establish some friendships.
