Music Ideas
I need some song and music ideas for a video that I am co-producing of a Mother Daughter Luncheon for an all girls high school. I thought that I would open with Rhapsody in Blue like Woody Allen's "Manhattan" and Thank Heaven for Little Girls. I am interested in any suggestions that will be appropriate for young ladies and their mothers attending this elegant event. Thank you.

When I glanced at your post and saw Woody Allen and Thank Heaven for Little Girls in the same place, many bad thoughts ran through my head.
Some other nice songs would be "In My Life" by the Beatles and "Lullaby" by Billy Joel at the end of the show.

Thanks 33 girl and LeslieAGD!
LOL at Woody Allen and little girls! Good songs too.
I don't know the Jessica Andrews song, but I searched and the lyrics are really right on target for my project.
Please keep the suggestions coming.

"Thank You" Natalie Merchant
"Wind Beneath My Wings" Bette Midler
"I Hope You Dance" LeAnn Womack
"26 Cents" The Wilkinsons
"I'll Be" Reba McEntire
After looking over the list, these really aren't "elegant" songs. But I think they relate to a mother/daughter relationship.

That sounds like what I need, songs that relate to being a teenager and the mother daughter relationship. I like the first three songs. I'm not familiar with the last two, but I'll check them out. The event is being held at a posh restaurant. The girls will wear party or prom dresses. It will be videotaped, and it is my job to select the songs and music that will play in the background.
Unfortunately, most of the songs that I hear lately on MTV and the radio are pretty crude and inappropriate. If the girls had their way, they would listen to Christina Aguillera and Eminem which is not really good for this event. It's a Catholic girl's school. The nuns would flip out. lol!

Man, there are so many good Father-Daughter songs, but not Mother-Daughter songs! Moms must feel jipped sometimes!

I'm sure you don't want to over-do the whole "mother-daughter-lovey-lovey" stuff...so I'll try not to continue it...
Since you said this is an elegant event, you could get away with simple classical pieces...I would strongly suggest:
- "The Song of the Secret Garden." (it's fairly popular, so most people will recognize it)
- Ravel's "Pavane" (directly translated this song is about the death of an infant, but it is incredibly beautiful and touching. no one has to know! hehe)
- Vivaldi's "Winter" or "Spring" (these might be pushing it)
- "La Folia" (or variations of....it's such a beautiful melody...!)
If you MUST go for something with lyrics, Iwould suggest
"Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion...it's versatile like that.
I want to second the "Faithfully" by Journey mention....awesome song...fits pretty nicely...but not exactly "elegant." Oh well, it's powerful enough to get some tear-jerking going on!
Also- the "Thank You" by Natalie Merchant mention is perfect.
