Beta Kappa

Our advisors (yes, that's right, our advisors NOT nationals) informed us last night that we are closed...right now. No Greek Week, no ASA/Teke Volleyball, no exchanges, no Parent's Weekend.....just closed. I'm very upset right now (if you can't tell). They pretty much told us too that if we decided to go out to dinner (as an example) if more then a few of us are wearing ASA shirts we can't do it, it could be consitered by a passer-byer as an ASA event.

I feel this was just poorly handled. I mean, to send our advisors to tell us when they gave them no answers to our questons... if they knew they they were going to close us they should have sent a national council member (i.e. Nora Ten Broek, Beta Kappa Alum) or even Crystal, since she's the one who wrote the reccomendation for closure.

Plus the other thing, we have $5000 in our account right now and not everyone has paid dues yet, and most budgets have not been spent, and I'm a poor college student and I can't even pay my bills right now and they're not giving us our money back....it's going to sit in a freeze account in case BK is re-opened. I never thought I'd say this because I love ASA, but right now I care more about my bills and my financal situation then whether Beta Kappa re-opens 10 years from now or more. I could rationalise the money struggle when I am paying to be part of an active orginzation, but I'm only half way through the semester. I don't think it's unresonable to want half of my dues back.

Anyway...sorry for venting, but I am very upset (as many of you can imagine).

You mean Crystal as in Crystal at HQ? She's not an elected officer - why is she recommending closure?? From what I see that's nowhere near any of her listed duties - I thought it was up to the VP of Collegians to do that sort of thing.

Who's holding your $$$ - the housing corp or nationals? (At least we didn't have to worry about that issue since we were flat broke.)

Yeah, it's HQ Crystal and right now the account is open until all of our current checks are cashed, then it goes into a frozen bank account I assume under nationals but spesfically for Beta Kappa. Our housing corp is selling our house as far as I know.
