I'm confused. Is the DG chapter at USC doing a re-org or a re-vitalization? Is this instead of the expansion they were going to do that was announced earlier this month? CarolinaDG? Anyone?

confused!
OK now I am totally confused!!! I thought USC was expanding? Also if GD is revitalizing wouldn't they have all the collegiate members go alum? According to the chapter website the chapter has officers and is still going???
So is this a really a COB blitz packaged and marketed as something else??

I was reading the USC website earlier and the notes they have from a Sorority Council meeting made it sound like a COB thing.
The same notes also talked about the expansion as a separate thing.

Has anyone ever heard of a push like this before? I wonder if other chapters could use it as a tool. I am very intrigued by this, because my chapter was in a situation a while ago where this may have been a good idea.

Hey, y'all. Please just visit the www.deltagamma.org/decidedg website for details. If you have specific questions, you may PM me, but I don't feel comfortable making a post about this. Sorry, y'all!
Edited to say: Here's the website for the newspaper article. This may help to clear some things up. http://www.dailygamecock.com/news/352086.html

There is such a thing as an "expansion rush." It's like a recolonization except all the "old" sisters get to stay. I don't know how much input they have on new member choice, I would guess at least some.
Bravo, bravo, two snaps and a high-five to Delta Gamma for choosing this option...it shows their faith in the current sisters and I think would cause a lot less of the hard feelings which can sometimes come with an immediate recolonization.

Hey everyone!
I thought that I would shed a little light on this considering my chapter just participated in the same thing in 2001. What this is called is a Fraternity Assisted COB. It is basically like another full week of recruitment for the DG chapter that is pushed along by interviews with potentials, events, and lots and lots of PR! All of the initiated members from the chapter are still there (they are not told to go alum or the chapter hasn't been gone for some years). This type of recruitment is used to help chapters that might possibly have trouble getting large pledge classes or hitting quota to get to house total. It was very successful for us and I have also heard that it has been successful elsewhere too. Quota during formal recruitment was 11 in which we hit and we also took 20+ women during our assisted COB.
So if that gives you a little idea as to what it is like and what it is, it definately is a great opportunity for these chapters!

I'm almost certain that DG did this last spring at the University of Georgia, too.

I'm curious. Without the help of EO to do the expansion (you said you got 12 girls) what would cob have been like? I guess I'm trying to gauge the impact of this type of national helping recruitment versus just the chapter doing it. And how does one chapter qualify for this type of assistance versus another? Does it ever come into conflict with other groups who are also doing cob at the same time?
Thanks!

The thing is, noone really knows what difference it would make whether EO came or not as far as numbers, but the big difference that it made to us was that it helped us get our name out on campus, which we really needed. For a week, DG was everywhere, which was really exciting to us. And even if we only got one or two more than if we had done COB ourself, that one or two more made a HUGE difference. We're very proud of the ladies that we most recently bid, and even prouder of how much bigger our name has gotten on campus since EO was here. I've never been prouder to be able to call myself a Delta Gamma.
