NIC Resolutions

Ok, say there's an NIC Resolution, and on your campus the IFC has a policy that goes against said resolution. When voting to overturn that policy, are all NIC member fraternities required to vote to overturn the policy b/c it goes against what their nationals have decided on in NIC?

I would take it to the chapter to see what is best for the chapter and then vote that way.

I know that as far as NPC, we would have to vote that way. Say there was a policy in place that advocated wet rush for sororities - we would have to vote against it because our sorority and NPC are both against it. The individual rights of the sororities, however, always outweigh the rights of NPC (or should). Like if we require a 3.0 to pledge NPC can't make us go to a 2.5.

The NIC doesn't control as much though. What is happening now?

A "Resolution" is generally a statement that this is something that we want to do or work towards. A resolution is not a law and no one has to follow it. An example of a resolution of NIC would be the dry housing initiative. It's just a set of goals and means by which to carry them out. It's not policy or law that everyone has to go dry by a certain day.

Don't worry about it. If its not in your National By-laws there are no worries.

'Sides, you have tomwatch groups likethe NIC, a bunch of old men with their panties in a bunch that have not only abandoned fun, but want to prevent others from having it.

To put it in Animal House the Movie terms: The members of Delta house don't become the leaders of NIC like groups . . . the Omega's do. A bunch of suck up kiss asses.

I disagree. While I can't dispute the NIC's membership of old men, they generally are doing things that are in the best interest of their member organizations and social fraternities in general. The NIC isn't a governing body, its a trade organization meant to coordinate the exchange of ideas. I don't know how they "want to prevent others from having it [fun]."

Also, my experience with its membership is that it is not made up of a bunch of suck up kiss asses. In fact, the new President of the NIC, who is a Pike, came and spoke on our campus to help get our chapter started when the school was trying to not let us on. He's definitely not a kiss ass.

My experience with the NIC has been nothing but positive.

There have been a few groups that have left NIC because they felt it was heading in the wrong direction. I'm sure if you did a search you could find which groups (if you care). Some organizations (all but 2 or 3) still maintain that it is a useful body to be a member of.
