Suggestions needed

Heres the deal: Being a GLO at a private university is not an easy task... The university ultimatly has control over all operations... However there comes a point where enough is enough... Our IFC is not as strong of an force as the fraternity community needs it to be and therefore needs some help getting our voices heard.

What are some effective ways of telling the University that we are getting tired of being pushed around by the Greek Life staff and demand that we be allowed to govern ourselves as an IFC with minor University intereference? Need something that will get attention without screwing us all over... Any suggestions?

I previously served as a regional advisor (in Michigan), and had one chapter who's IFC/ Panhellenic were self-governed. (and it was a very large public university) They had a well defined judicial system and advisors that were paid from member dues... ultimately, that would have to be your first step. The university (especially a private university) will not relinquish control unless they see that there will be adequate oversight.

Not knowing 'how' the Greek Life staff is 'pushing around' member organizations, I can't be more specific. Bottom line, if you want to self-govern, prove that you can do it responsibly. Member organizations will need to stick together and push for what is best for all, and show the good things that they are doing.

Thumbs up

SigEpPrez, I think that the advice just given is some of the best that I have seen!

Small Local or private schools have much more leway on what to do with Greeks on Their Campus. You are at their mercy!

BUT, if you prove your selves as Greeks, not just Men, and not just Women that you are responsible then, there will be more losening of the reins so to speak! Govern Your selves TOGETHER and stand by your decisions in a standard manner. Work together! Not as fighting the School but working within the system to show what Greeks are and stand for!

I wish you would PM me so I can get more information of the Number of Greeks, the size of the school, Chapters, etc.

Will try to give you some insight/input. I am a Greek ! I will always e a LXA but beleive in the Greek system! Please do PM me!

Interfraternally yours,
