I saw the special for this on BET tonight. I saw a lot of people that were affiliated with the Ruff Ryders there. Didn't pay too much attention to the plot because Larenz Tate and Tyson Beckford were lookin' rather tasty!!

P.S. I also saw that Lisa Bonet has a role as well.

Biker Boys

Please try and support this movie if you can. One of my Sands worked tirelessly on this picture for almost a year.

If you can stand another movie about some subculture of Los Angeles (I know I can ) then go check this out. Besides, Larenz Tate and the cuite from Atwone Fisher are in it (for the ladies) and some of the most attractive sistahs (for the brothahs).

From the Director of Biker Boys:

Check it.

Have you heard of the Valiant Riders, Rare Breed,
Brothers of the Sun, Sisters of the Sun?

Have you heard of predominantly African-American
Motorcycle clubs? Bikers of color that don't carry a gun?

The Dizzy Gillepsies of the motorcycle world.
Coltrane playing the throttle.

Brothers who come together without drive-bys,
nigger calling and drinking from a forty-ounce bottle.

The way they ride you couldn't even dream.
It is an obsession, a lifestyle, A Love Supreme.

Imagine Thelonious on a motorcycle.
When he rode 'Round Midnight it would defy…

Anything you'd imagine. You gotta see
these Riders fly.

We created jazz, we created hip-hop.
And no one told Bikers it was time to stop

Some said this film wouldn't get made, but
Easy Riders can't do it this hard

And things that are impossible with man,
are always possible with God.

Please support this film on it's opening weekend, this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Help Biker Boyz ride into history and exceed Hollywood's expectations. Nothing would be more appreciated. Nothing would be jazzier.

Thumbs up

I saw it today and it was a good flick. Derek Luke was still verry yummylicious.

It was a trip to see Megan Good go from Cousin Skeeter to Sister Sleazy in that dress but it was all to the good.

There were a couple of plot surprises in the movie, but I will let you see them for yourself.

Vanessa Bell Calloway did an EXCELLENT JOB but she is from Cleveland so what do you expect.

Good acting all around. Salli Richardson's name in the movie was HALF and HALF I will let you figure out why.

Oh and for the TYSON BECKFORD fans, he is in the movie for 95 seconds.

Wow! That is a full 65 seconds more than he was in Pandora's Box! Move on up, Tyson, move on up!

I thought the movie was good. Especially considering that one of the trailers when I saw it was Deliver us from Eva/The Brothers/Love and BAsketbvall/Brown Sugar/The Best Man/The Wood.

BB was a nice change.

Megan Goods, though I liked her character, looked hoe-ish. I am sorry. I know that her you know whatsare fake and I think she looks way to "done." She is a pretty girl but dang.

I wa also surprised that there weren't 192 rappers in the movie. That was also a pleasant surprise.

Although it came in number 3, that isn't that good from what I am told. I think it says a lot about Black support of our movies, but I guess not to the directors, etc.

I thought it was good. The plot surprises were welcome. They had people in the theater going, "WHAAAAT?!" That was nice. I am amazed that I live in LA and knew nothing about this subculture. Also, Soror Vanessa plays a wonderful mom. Ok, how many Black actors/actresses were in this movie. At times I felt like I was watching a rap video because of all of the cameos/appearances.

You know what was good. . .the minimal cursing and no N word @ ALL. This was pointed out last week on Russ Parr and it truly was minimal given the type of movie.

The car scene with Vanessa was VERY GOOD, totally realistic.
She did a high caliber performance through and through in that movie.

Oh and there were a lot of reunions in that movie. . . Lisa and Kadeem, Vanessa and Ike, err, umm, Laurence.

Also, was it my imagination or was Salli Richardson's character very...useless. She had maybe two lines the whole movei. The part at the end and maybe at a point where she was bartending. Other than that, did anyone ever even refer to her as half and half? I just thought the way they chalked it up about having all the premiere Black actresses that she would have had a more integral role. Also, the sistah from the Best Man (the snotty one) was supposed to be in it. Did anyone see her?

THE ROBERTSON TREATMENT VOL 6.4: Reggie "Rock" Bythewood - Expanding Horizons in Cinema

Reggie "Rock" Bythewood
(Feb. 4, 2003) Reggie "Rock" Bythewood makes his feature film directing debut in the Dreamworks release "Biker Boyz." Revered as an action-packed contemporary Western, Bythewood invites audiences to take a ride on the wild side while getting a sneak peek into the underground world black motorcycle clubs. The veteran television writer began his career writing for the hit sitcom and "Cosby Show" spin off, "A Different World." From that point on, things were on the up and up for this screenwriting maverick, whose writing credits include: Pike Lee's "Get on the Bus," and "Dancing in September."
Adamant on telling the story that he wanted without the hassle of answering to the expectations of others, Bythewood began researching the subculture of black biker enthusiasts, a phenomenon that was truly new to him. "I was emotionally attached this story," mentions Bythewood of the film "Biker Boys." The film is based on the now defunct New Times Los Angeles article of the same name penned by journalist Michael Gougis. Set against an urban backdrop, Bythewood along with a stellar cast brought the project to fruition.

In the film we meet Smoke, the fictional King of Cali bad boy of the streets. The question surrounding this character is does he still have what it takes to be the King of Cali? In comes Kid - a cocky young man whose father was killed in a bike related accident right before his eyes. In an effort to uphold the legacy of his father, Kid decides to overthrow the King of Cali. Armed with a heart of steel and a fearless spirit Kid creates his own biker club sans Smoke and calls them the Biker Boyz. Full of amazing stunts, heart pounding action, and hard-hitting drama Bythewood hit the head right on the nose with this film.

"I didn't want this to be a visual effects film where Laurence Fishburne and Derek Luke would sit on a bike in front of a green screen pretending to ride," says Bythewood of the film. In staying true to the game, Bythewood made it a point to train all of the actors how to ride a motorcycle. In retrosect, Bythewood readily admits that working on an action film of this caliber was no easy feat. "It was hard because it meant that we really had to get out there an do it," mentions Bythewood. "There were times that I was like 'God I can't believe I'm not using a green screen' but at the same time it was all so exhilarating," adds the enthusiastic director.

Creativity was the key to bringing Bythewood's vision of "Biker Boyz" to fruition. He did not want to do an action film that was just another film that had action and attitude. Instead the director, wanted to do something that was action-packed but also had a strong storyline with a sense of emotion, which is one of the reasons why he hired the cast that he did. The cast, although primarily African American, is a combination of the best of actors ranging from Laurence Fishburne, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Eric LaSalle, and Larenz Tate, to Kid Rock, Orlando Jones, Lisa Bonet, Djimon Hounsou and newcomer Derek Luke. A truly amazing project, Bythewood maintained the following as his mantra while working, "I figured when making a film like this you need to get everybody into the action, get their mouths open, then BOOM.hit them with some truth," says the director. Needless to point out, that is exactly what Bythewood does for audiences. The truth in which he is referring to here is two-fold: first, it is the fact that blacks are avid bike enthusiasts and participate in much of the same activities white individuals engage in. Second, black action films are of interest to all audiences worldwide.

Despite his highly anticipated feature film debut ("Biker Boyz"), the director maintains that he still has tons of stories that he wants to tell, but keeps it real with why his current film is so important. "What's really important is that this kid comes into his manhood, and comes into his own," says Bythewood of the storyline. An amazing film with kick-ass action sequences followed by a dramatic twist, "Biker Boyz" is a film that audiences can not afford to miss! - Angee Fielder
