How long did it take to get your badge from EO?

Another badge question (does it show that I'm obsessed?)

Last night I was told that it might take up to a year for my badge to arrive from EO. It has something to do with the fact that I'm in Canada. Now, that estimate might have been overstated for dramatic effect, but I'm curious: how long did you have to wait before you got your badge?

I guess I'll be stalking the badges on eBay for awhile...

I think it took like 6 months to get my badge. It's taken even longer than that to get it back from my lil. She was pinned with it at inititation almost 2 years ago! Oh well, it's my fault for forgetting to ask for it when I see her <sigh>

badge obsession.... oh i've been there!

Well all my paperwork( Alum initiation form, check, etc,,,,) was received after national convention in June at EO and, that was with the badge order. I got my badge from the company in August. Then i had to wait til November to be able to wear it at initiation.

Don't worry you might have to wait long. It isn't like fall initiation time. There orders are slowed down quite a bit I would imagaine.

If you were initiated as an alum initiate then it depends on how quickly you return the paperwork to the EO with what initials you want on your badge.

Really it doesn't take that long to get badges out...it depends how slow your chapter is in sending in paperwork and needed fees.

Thanks APhigal... The collegians who will be initiating me said that they still haven't received their badges and certificates for last fall's new member class, and seemed to suggest that Canadian chapters tend to wait longer to get these items. Of course, I'm not convinced that the delay is EO's fault -- knowing Canadian customs like I do, I wouldn't be surprised if the things are held up at the border.

Things definitely get hung up at the border here! We ordered a package of Foundation brochures one year in June, thinking there'd be tons of time before Rush, they didn't arrive until the FOLLOWING August. And they came with a bill from UPS for Customs! And that was just paperwork!

One good thing, while you wait for YOUR pin, you'll be able to wear your big sister's or sponsor's pin. So you won't be totally without. And there's something special about that!

Okay, here is my take on it. (Yes, I am a Delta Gee, and our badges are made by Burr, Patterson and Auld, not Masters of Design).

My badge took about 6-8 weeks after initiation. Once you are initiated, it is up to the chapter to submit the paperwork that "yes, she was initiated", since no EO will release a badge unless they know that "for sure, for sure" you were initiated. Hopefully they will do this as promptly as possible!

Your badge should take LESS time than the autumn initiates, only because there are less Alpha Phi initiates in the Spring than in the Fall (when the vast majority of Formal Recruitment occurs). Therefore, there will be less initiates to "process".

Also, your badge will not be held up at the border.
What will happen is Canada Post will deliver you a notice that there is a package at your post office, with address, etc.
When you go to pick it up, the postal worker will advise you what the duty is, and you pay the duty right then and there at the post office. Then you get to take your lovely badge home!

Thanks for the info, CutiePie.

I'm not sure what happens, but there seems to be a lull between EO and the Phis in this part of Canada. I'm not sure why, and I might not be the best person to explain it (yogiPhi, where are you Sis?), but a few of the Phis in my area have said that it takes a while for badges to come through, and that it usually has to do with customs.

I filled out my own paperwork for the badge, and I submitted it 10 days ago (I think). I'm hoping my badge will get here in time for initiation, but if it doesn't, that's fine... knowing that I'll be a full-fledged Phi is more important than having the badge...not that the badge isn't pretty darned important too!

Oh, and don't get me started on customs and the package my mother sent from home that was held for one month!

It will definitely get held up at the border - sorry Cutie Pie, that's just the way it has worked for the last 14 years here in BC.

As for getting your pin in time for initiation SisterMadly... dream on! I'm sorry but that just isn't going to happen. Sorry.

And Customs... well, i'm waiting for a pkg my parents sent in OCTOBER from Australia! Still haven't got it and Canada Post has no record of it entering the country. It is lost out there, probably at customs, and now I have to track it. I hate Canada Customs sometimes... but then again, they're there for a reason and usually do their job well.

It took me two years to get my badge! It came in the fall after I initiated, but I was a Rho Gamma for Recruitment at the time and my President misplaced it! They just finally found it!

Eh, I wasn't too worried about it. I mean yes, I'm obsessed with having a badge , but I kind of figured it wouldn't be here by March 29. No worries!

delivery time

I ordered my badge in june and i got it in august and i wasn't initated until November. during low production time it may take 2 months. when did you order your badge? You said something about the Canada mail system that may be the one tie up you have. That may be the one roadblock in your delivery of your pin.

That's strange, because when I picked up my badge in Toronto (shipped from Columbus, OH), there was no hold up at all.

Ah, but Toronto is the centre of the Universe, while us lowly folk out here in BC are in some remote western outpost!

smuggle it in??

I am going to Canada (montreal) the week of April 7th. I will be at the EO two weeks before for a meeting. I could always smuggle your badge in and mail it to you from Montreal.

Let me know!
