I had a position similar to this (same job, different title). I set up programs based on topics we were teaching the new members for the whole chapter. It's amazing how quickly you can forget things from your new member period! We had programs on hazing and reviewing our standing rules and stuff. I also set up programs on stress relief. For this one, you can contact local massage therapist to come in and do short (15 min) massages on all the girls. To make some of the more dry topics more exciting, try turning them into games like Jeopardy or something.

I did a jeopardy type game with my chapter, split them up into two teams, and gave the winning team candy. In addition to questions about hazing, alcohol awareness, risk management, etc., I also did a "Social Fun Facts" and asked silly questions about girls in the chapter and what they had done at social events in the past. it went over pretty well.

I've got Standards Chair (board responsible for conduct) and PACE Chair (Personal and Chapter Enrichment). So not only do I get to make sure we are all promoting the highest type of womanhood, I have to have a program once a month to show how - I would love programming ideas! I have do to a scholarship one right after bid day, and after that I'm not sure what I'll be doing.

Geekypenguin, IH provides a good sized booklet on different PACE ideas, everything from alchohol awareness to time management to learning how to know if you have an STD. There's all sorts of stuff in that book, but if you don't have it, contact IH.

To everyone else, some ideas for your chapters on educational "Greek-101" type programming could be self-defense (hire an instructor or check out your campus' recreation center), teaching the members how to manage their time, or bringing in a campus or community police officer to talk about local, state, and national laws about drug and alcohol abuse (we did that and it was really eye-opening). Something that my chapter has done before is taking a walk together on campus during meeting time (at night) and identifying the areas that are unsafe for walking alone or in small groups at night. We brought the campus safety escort service into this one and they helped out. We've also brought in a top-level company executive who taught us how to write brilliant resumes and give worthy interviews. It was really helpful, too. The ideas are endless and most people on campus and in the community will probably be willing to help with something to educate the members.

I do a similar position SG&D is what we call it. Anyhow:
We do a fashion show, but not only ritual. We have to have business attire for chapter, and business casual. So we include those items, and then add a few fun ones like formal, demonstration on breaking the no drinking with letters rule.

We are doing a fire drill this semester for our FIPG requirements. We have this video from Off of Res Life that shows a dorm room burning! eek! wow it is freaky! We are going to do drills from a party situation in our house. Showing sisters how to clear the house and make sure others follow so no one gets hurt, do a night time drill, and then we are doing a ritual one. We have huge risk where our ritual room is, (one hallway with stairs, no alternate exits) and we are going to talk about this and evaluate it's safety.

we are doing 'Rules of Sex' and setting out community norms on when sex is ok. ie how much alcohol? how long dating? etc. and this will be moderated by the school counselor who also is in charge of sexual assult counseling. This way all sisters will know her, and hopefully be more comfortable getting help. We also will then have set forth community norms and hopefully aid women who act a little wild to rethink their actions, and choose a more healthy life style.

then we are doing body image. We have an academic all-campus speaker on monday and then thursday we have a sisters only event. we are work at appreciating bodies across the cultural ideas of bueatiful (dk skin vs light, curvy vs stick, big chest v. small chest) and raise self esteem.

That is our program! Hope this helps and Good Luck!
Lil E

Little E, those are awesome ideas! I met one of your sisters at a track meet and she is awesome - a very good representative of your chapter.

I guess i'm the 1st guy to post here...

I am standards/excellence for my chapter. It involves chapter scholarship, educational programs, and awards (for our university & nationals)

This year for scholarship we instituted study halls at our house, and big bro/lil bro study hours. We also started our points system as an incentive for our Brothers.

For education, we did an alcohol awareness seminar, STD awareness, and attend the required programs for the greek community (suicide prevention, eating disorders and men, etc.)

Its really strange 'cause all of the sororities are so suprised that we are are so organized.

We are doing fire saftey to complete the FIPG requirements. Last week I talked to the head security officer about it and how i wanted to burn clothing to show how flamable some of our clothes are. (ie nylons, silk, polyester, cotton, etc) Especially dress clothes. Well apparently the school has to discharge fire extinguishers every so often, they rotate the ones that need to be discharged so a few go off every month. Because we talked to him in advance he is gonna let us burn stuff, in a controlled setting, and put the fire out with an extinguisher. (We did have to get permission from Residential Life cause it is oncampus.) He is gonna do fire alarm pulls and go over the basics of fire saftey. After the club fires in the past few weeks it will be very timely. Then we will do fire evacuations and whatnots. If you need to fullfill this type of requirement you could talk to people on your campus. Check with your insurance, we had to have it controled by a security officer but other than that we are clear.

I'm so excited!!! We have a national rep on campus that week so it will be interesting to burn stuff with her Poor Woman! (Helping recruitment, getting to play with fire!)
