Tests from tolerance.org: How Tolerant are you?

Tests from tolerance.org: How tolerant are you?
In the SPIRIT of MLK Weekend/Day, how tolerant are you? Tolerance.org has a series of tests which will test hidden bias.

My results from the Black/White Adults Bias test:
Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Black

My results from the Black/White children bias test:
Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Black children

My results of my skintone preference test:
Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for darker skin

Does this make me a bad person?

I love myself and my people. The thing is that it seems to be a problem to have a preference. Reading the "fine print," biases are natural, yet it's like a sin to have a preference. Even though I could care less about what people think about my preference, I don't think that people should be led to believe that it is not right.

is there a need in 'our' communities, are there things that are unique to 'our' way of life, are there special moments that are experienced that elevate you primarily within 'our' circles, is there a pride for the history, life and values that have remained within 'us', are we not designed to see and react, to have an affinity for our own.

The bible is replete with references of national and race pride, given the opportunity most people throughout the world have and affinity and preference for others of their own race.

In my humble opinion, America's sensitivity to this has become borderline neurotic. She is suffering from guilt, by and large, of a history that she is trying to forget. I read one a piece in "The Isis Papers" that genetic survival is a key component to why 'racism' existed and continues to exist, and it is to this that mainstream america is reacting. Again pulling from my past, I had an African Professor who said that if we are really trying to change America at the fundmental level then we should intermarry, since then their would be no 'pure race' merely race that would have to recreate the nation to reflect them all.

My reaction was i can't believe that this man who i respect is saying this until i thougt about it. Part of my deference for my race is that growing up i was a part of the 'barbie' syndrome. Even though i lived in a country predominantly black, i went to a private school where there was a mixture of white and black and in our circles the prettiest girl was ethier the 'mango skinned' (i.e. golden brown) or white and this was reinforced by everything on tv, my heritage was colonial, so family members encouraged to shop for 'light skinned, long haired, sista's, When i started reading and my eyes were opened my journey into the love of my race and colour began. Since then my PREFERENCE has always been a sista, and sadly, if you to 'lightskinnned' i didn't look twice, (i did look once though - (quirky smile)).

Damn, i'm rambling (Laughing at myself)

The bottom line is that prefering one-self and one's colour is not inherently nor intrinically bad, it is healthy. It is especially not inherently nor intrinsically bad when it comes to education and our children. They NEED us, we need to show them that their is a better way than that that he media is pushing down their throat, where we are ethier from the projects, a villian, a petty theif, a murderer, a physcotic (i'm sure i spelt that wrong) deranged psycopath, a clown, or some no english speaking, bumbling, fool.

THEY NEED US. These european folks have the luxury of debating that our preference for our race is negative. They are the one's who have to fight that inner child. We, as far as i know, (and we=aboriginal people) have traditionally accepted others, allowing them to live and co-exhist, they are the ones were the one's who lacked table manners, ediquette and commonsense.

Dayum, i'm rambling again!

Beautiful, Beautiful sista. Examine yourself, take internal inventories, know thyself. It you find anything wrong remove it. But never, NEVER, think that preference for one's own reflection is wrong, because then one morning you will find something wrong with the reflection you see in the mirror when you prepare for the day.

So remember...,

Wow! These tests were really interesting. Like RedefinedDiva, all of my results came out prefering darker skin and black people. I'm not shocked about that, however, I was shocked at how difficult it was to pick the correct word for the correct face. For example, the computer would say "war" or "agony" and even though I was supposed to click on the darker skinned person with the word "bad" underneath, my mind automatically wanted to click on the white face with the word "good" under it. You know, sort of like that test where the word "yellow" is spelled in a red font and your mind finds it hard to differentiate between the color of the font and the actual word. You probably have to take the test to see what I mean, but it definitely opened my eyes to some of the subliminal biases that I hold. Thanks for posting this, AKA2d!

Interesting

I scored strong preference for staight people although I had stated I would have no preference. This was also the first one I did.

I scored little or no preference on skin tone, gender bias, and weight bias. I had said strong preference for darker skin, slight preference for thin people, and no preference on gender. But it also got easier to click the correct side with each test. So I also wonder how much of it was getting use to the test. Maybe that is why they asked how many had you completed before.

Thumbs up

Excellent test! Today I am going to have some of the older students try them.
My results were:

No/Little preference for gay/straight, dark/light skin tone and black/white children.

I wonder how Sen. Trent Lott and Strom Thurman would have done ( I know: Bad joke )
