Calling all Californians: Help Choose the CA Quarter Design!

Dear Californians:

As Chair of the California Quarter Committee, I am sending my thanks to Californians for their participation in the California Quarter Program. As we draw near to the much-anticipated selection of the California Quarter, it is my hope that the final design will visualize the concept of our diverse state. The generous participation of the public has made this historic program possible. From more than eight thousand submissions received between September 9, 2002 and November 9, 2002 the California Quarter Selection Committee has chosen twenty California-inspired ideas!

The twenty images posted here give Californians an opportunity to comment on the California Quarter semi-finalists. Governor Gray Davis believes that it is important to have commentary from the public to help realize this vision. We encourage you to review these California images and choose the concept that you would consider the best representation of our great state. Simply mark your preference and then click the submit button near the bottom of the page. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Starr
State Librarian of California

I voted for the 3rd one. Also would be a good one is #7 (the one with the different trees). It represents the fauna of trees in California.

Cool

I like the one with the pot leaf on it.

Or how about a pic of the LA Riots?

Or a bunch of hippies zoned out on acid?

or a building with no power?

just a couple thoughts...

Either a Lone Star or the Alamo -- anything else just won't do. Hell, I've learned more about Texas history since I became a Mason in Texas! Some of the Masonic traditions in Texas:

On the first Saturday in March, the anniversary of the siege of the Alamo, Texas Masons march in procession from the Scottish Rite Cathedral to the Alamo, where the Grand Master of Masons in Texas lays a wreath to honor the defenders of the shrine of Texas liberty.

The anniversary of the founding of the Grand Lodge of Texas takes place at the Masonic Charter Oak in Brazoria, which still stands to this day.

Every December, San Antonio Masons have a special re-obligation night inside the chapel of the Alamo. (Alamo Lodge #44 originally met in the Long Barracks of the Alamo, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (custodians of the Alamo) allow the Masons to do this every year - the only organization to have their meeting inside the Alamo). Before the lodge is closed, the brethren link hands and circle the altar inside the chapel and all recite the Texas Master Mason obligation, reaffirming their vows to the fraternity.

I chose #4--the Golden Gate and (what I presume is) the goddess Pomona! It represents both Northern and Southern California nicely.

Talking

I like #8, 14, and 18.

I like that #18 is nice and simple, #14 covers both NorCal and So Cal, and #8 incorporates everything.

I like #17 but I don't think it'd make the best quarter.
