How was 19 party, Beta Phi?

Courtney and anyone else at IU:

How was the 19 party round? How many PNMs went through? I saw what Courtney posted on the new roll call thread about being named Loudest house on campus

Ya'll know me, I love recruitment stories!

Roses,
Christin

Hi!

19 party....all I can say is...WOW! This is something that takes two days...this part Saturday and Sunday. The PNM's visit 10 houses on Saturday and 9 the next. My sophomore year was when I actually talked to the PNM's. This year and last, I work on the membership selection committee...making sure all the scores are documented and everyone is in order. I believe that this job is cake compared to what the girls talking to PNM's has to go through!

We cheer so hard and have the most engery, it is just amazing! Just try to imagine! This year, IU had 1,600+ girls come through 19 party. That was roughly 88 girls who came to the house during each round. Our girls had to get to know the girls, talk about the chapter, answer any questions, and show amazing energy! At IU, the chapters are allowed to bang on doors and make lots of noise as the PNM's are entering the house. The goal is always to be louder than the houses closest to us. The "loudest competition" is with Delta Zeta to the right and Chi Omega across the street. As the girls enter, the AOII's continue with a cheer...jumping up and down, yelling. One could understand why their throats were hurting after like the first three or four...imagine doing that 19 times!

It was fantastic though! 19 party is easily the hardest to go through for everyone involved! Next, we have 12, then 6, then 3...this all happens at the beginning of January.

This is my final recruitment. I am a senior this year. It makes me sad to know that I will be leaving shortly, but I believe that we will get some more awesome girls to continue to make AOII proud!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all, but this was a long week for us. 12 party started on Thursday and finished on Friday. During this each round on these two days, there was a skit to be performed by our girls for the the PNM's. I thought the skit was creative and cute, but on the first day, apparently some girls didn't agree. The negative attitude about the skit was reflected in our girls. I'm still not even sure what the problem was...I watched and thought it was entertaining and those in the skit were able to work out any problems to make it better. But, the second was better, attitude wise, for our girls.

6 party was on Saturday. The AOII's all wore some sort of red cocktail dress. Instead of pounding on the walls and cheering like we had for 19 and 12, this was a more classy party. The PNM's were introduced to the whole chapter as they walked in the door. For example, "Women of Alpha Omicron Pi, I present to you....." then the PNM was greeted by an AOII and she handed the PNM a rose. The girls were able to sit down and talk just llike before, but at a certain point in time, the PNM's were taken into the dining room where they watched a video tape of us...this video tape was basically pictures that we had taken and put to music. The tapes are always great! This year, there were quotes directed to the seniors, which I think made every senior cry! The PNM's heard speeched and then were sung to. It was a very pretty event.

3 party or preference round was on Sunday. This was easily the most hectic day even though we had fewer parties to deal with. Now, to be quite honest, I'm not really sure what the ceremony and things looked like for 3 party. The AOII's had to wear long black dresses and a girl forgot hers at home and asked to borrow mine. I figured that since I was on MS, that it wasn't a big deal for her to borrow...so, I didn't get to see what happened.

Tonight is bid night. This is going to be pretty exciting! We are taking a rather large pledge class since the class that is graduating is the last of the colony class. It turns out that between 6 and 3 party, we had the highest return rate that Beta Phi has ever seen! That was pretty awesome to hear! And, it gave our girls the extra nudge to do well and be in good spirits for 3 party.

That is pretty much all that happened. I feel that the AOII's that talked to PNM's did such a great job. Being on MS, however, this was not as fun as last year. This was my second year doing it...I was one of two veterans for this committee. What made it hard for was the fact that one girl who had never worked with MS before was talking to everyone else like we were children. It's pretty insulting to be talked to the way she talked to me. She was say something to me, making me feel like I didn't know what I was doing and then turn to me no more than 10 minutes later asking me how we should do something! Grrr! Just thank goodness that is over. The best part is coming tonight!

Bid Night was great! It was a Hawaiian themed night. The list was read to us and then we went outside with sparklers and waited for the buses to start coming down the street. When a bus would come up, we would run up to it and bang on the bus waiting for our girls to come out.

As far as numbers, I believe we got 54 or 55 of the 57 we invited back actually came back. It is alright though because it looks like we have 3 girls already lined up for COB!
