want to be a chi-o

Hey, I'm starting informal spring recruitment at UW-Madison. There are six sororities participating out of eleven, but after going through fall recruitment (but not signing or joining anything), I already know that I absolutely love Chi Omega and I would love to join! Yes, I'll keep an open mind, but Chi Omega was at the top of my list last time. So, my question to you...Is there anything Chi Omega looks for in particular in a pnm or is there any advice you can offer me to help? Thanks so much and hopefully by next Wednesday, I'll know if I get to be a future sister of Chi Omega!

uwgirl-
First off, good luck with recruitment! It's such a pain, but so much fun, too!

Chi Omega definitely looks for good scholarship, leadership ability, involvement, and diversity in it's members. Remember though, each chapter is different. My suggestion for anyone rushing any group is to not be SO into asking questions directly related to the sorority (i.e colors, mascot, etc). Try to really find out about the women in the chapter. That always stuck out to me, when I had a conversation with a PNM that was fun and different.

Again, good luck and keep us posted, where ever you end up!!!!

I would have to agree with Kathy!
People who make a good impression are those who are genuinely interested in the ideals and history of the sisterhood. It probably wouldn't hurt to mention your deep interest in Chi Omega while talking to the women.

Some key things to discuss are:
Why you want to be a Chi Omega.
Ask them why they wanted to be a Chi Omega and what it has to offer you!
Tell them what some of your goals are and how you try to live your life...does it match with the symphony?
Don't try to impress them with knowledge...just be yourself and impress upon them that you would like to be a sister for such-and-such reasons (what attracts you to Chi Omega).
Ask relative questions.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Keep an open mind however because no one is garaunteed anything.

Best of luck to you!

Hey girls, thanks for the advice! We visited the houses tonight, and a girl who I talked to during fall recruitment remembered me and we talked almost the whole time! I felt really relaxed with the girls I talked to and...they called me back already!!! They invited me to their next two events, so wish me luck!

Hey everyone, just a little update. I went to a brunch at Chi-O today and met a lot more great girls! I love how diverse the house is, yet they're all unified by how excited they are about being in Chi-O! The last two events they held, they told people but also called some they wanted to come back. After this, it's by invite only, so a little after I got back from visiting their house, I got a phone call and...I GOT INVITED BACK!!! I'm so excited! Only a few more days 'til Wednesday, bid day!

I literally screamed out loud when I read this. Thankfully, no one else is in the office. Congratulations and welcome to our sisterhood! I wish you all the joy and pride Chi Omega gave me - and still does over ten years after my initiation!

Aww, thanks! I'm so excited to be a part of Chi Omega! I almost started crying several times tonight I got so excited and overwhelmed! There are 9 great girls including myself who accepted bids! Already this Saturday we have a pledge party where we will be escorted by DU and then the next Saturday we have a crush party! I'm so excited!!!
ps How do you get the letters in the signature? I tried to make the greek letters for Chi-O, but it didn't turn out before.
