1-6-03 A Brother Gets Fired Up
Greek Chat Lambda Chi Brothers,
I am writing all of you to tell you that our Brother from Lock Haven (Lambda Gamma Zeta), Larry Rinish #720. Has taken it upon himself to relight the flame of the extinguished LGZ chapter.
Larry has never done anything like this before, and I just had a great conversation with him for about an hour on where to start to get his chapter back. Larry is an alumni just out of college and is fired up for this monumental task with Nationals, the school and their own dissaffected alumni.
It excites me as a brother to see one of our own so fired up about this thing of ours.
Larry's email is Rinish720@yahoo.com
I will be inviting him to join us on Greek Chat this evening to help keep his fire going while he take on the world so to speak this year!
Please lend him a letter of suppot and encouragement, as he will surely need it!

Whats the good word bros,
As Jason has announced I have taken it upon myself to 'light the lamp of Lambda Gamma Zeta, Lock Haven once again'. I am new to this and would greatly appreciate any feedback offered. I am mostly looking for the support of some fellow chapters. I have a lot of work ahead of me, which I am very excited about starting. Jason Lenox has been very instrumental with his instructions and ideas on turning my Zeta back into the great chapter it once was.
I realize that this will take some time and am totally prepared, willing, determined, and enthusiasic about getting this underway. I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts and ideas. My email is rinish720@yahoo.com.
In the most sincerest of ZAX,
Larry Rinish LG 720

Good luck my brother...I'm sure you'll need it. I wish that it didn't take things like closed chapters to get brothers fired up about the flame cause we have been close to it here. Once again good luck and I hope more brothers see the flame in you and rekindle it in themselves.

Speaking from experience - make sure even though he is fired up, that he has patience.
I, too, helped restart a dormant zeta (my own zeta), but, I had to hold that flame for 11 long years - it IS worth the wait, but patience is key.
Tell him to logon or contact me, and I can help outline specifics, and maybe a few key contacts who are well-respected by nationals (also a key factor) to get things rolling.

GOGOGO!!!!
Brother Rinish, as to what LXAAlum said, it is so true!
You must have the patentence of Jobe.
Get as many ducks in a row so when you are ready to petition, you can give facts!
Do you have any backing from International, Alum Groups, yours/locals, and the School? That would be a place to start!!
Is there room on campus for a Fraternity to come back.? What is the feelings for Greeks on campus.? Are there independents who are looking for something else?
These and maybe more questions need to be answered first.
I admire you for what you are about to undertake and the road will be tough. Please dont give up any hope!! You have many Brothers who will help as all of us have the fire of the lamp in our hearts.
I hope that International will some day soon get digital up and running, and soon! This could help in finding out more info in your quest.
I want to find info out but alas, cannot!
All I can say,
Is
IN ZAX,

Rinish,
I'm also an LHU greek, and I am proud to hear that you are trying to reestablish the LCA chapter at LHU. Please let me know how your efforts are coming along.

Thanks Eaglechick for taking notice.
Any support your organization can lend rinish (in the form of a letter) or a word or two to Kevin Stone and the Dean of Students will go along way towards helping. And any positive buzz you can start with the greeks will sure help as well.
Im in or near Lock Haven every thursday, drop me a line and we can have lunch or something.
Regards,
Jason

It will be a tuff road to hoe but with help from the local Greeks( Thanks Eagle Chick ) it can be an happening event!
Larry, never give up hope and keep the flame burning!
Have you tried to establish a Alum Data Base for e-m contacts?
Some might be butt heads, but there are others that want to do it!!!

Yep, Lenoxxx seems to bleed purple, green, and gold!
In regards to Tom's comments about "buttheads"...yeah, you'll find some...maybe burned out on the whole deal. We've had a few. Some were not keen on LXA in general (meaning HQ), feeling they had gotten a "raw deal" when the chapter was originally closed, and, maybe to a certain extent, they did. But, once the colony gets rolling - these are the kind of alumni to bring to Ritual - that usually helps mend their ways, if you know what I mean!
Even if certain alums are not at all interested...stay in touch with them. Consistency is key, and that could be another reason they haven't been involved or burned out. I know for a time, all I ever received were mailings from nationals or local chapters seeking donations. I was unemployed. I still got requests to donate. Not to participate, but to donate. I would rather have been solicited for the latter, and eventually was, and became a very active alumni volunteer, to this very day.
Hope this rant helps.

It's true that you need to approach the alumni on items NOT dealing specifically with $$$. This is a major idea that I promote when giving presentations on how to start alumni associations.
If you think about it. we're always being hit up for money...whether it's an ad on TV, a phone call @ dinnertime or a mail solicitation, everybody wants our cash.
The one thing an alum can offer that other people can't, though, is EXPERIENCE. We've "been there and done that". Alums can look at what's happening in a chapter through the eyes of an undergrad with real world knowledge.
Good luck to GLZ - Xalepa Ta Kala!

Brother Foltz, both points I think says it all!
We are in financial problems with International, but what Chapter isnt.
We as Alums have been working with the Young Brothers for about 2 years now in a concentrated effort.
I was on teh phone with the New Beta last night adn told him straight out, you need to get the money paid off now.
His statement was, " Tom, we are the new guys and this was before us".
My come back was, " that may well be, but it is on your shoulders now".
I told him that the Alums have bailed out the chapter many times and it has come to a halt.
Why, we as Alums are putting money into a new house to be built this this year on our own with no help from International.
No money is available to do anything for the Chapter. Now is the time you must step up and do it yourselves
That is the Black and White of it in a nut shell!
Dont tell me I am wrong as have been there and done it!
Thanks for the venting ear from ya all!

Same place as in 2001, Iowa State University in Ames. IHQ's website doesn't show a specific date, yet, but it's probably during the w-o 8/4-9.
Check out lambdachi.org in March (Bo Gebbie, Conferences Coordinator, told me they won't have any hard data online until after the SLC's are completed in February).
