I don't know if there are any other Spongebob fans here, but I heard a nasty rumor that they are thinking of canning the show!!!!! There is an online petition you can sign to help save Spongebob!!!!!!! I found it accidentally when I searched for Spongebob Squarepants........please sign and help save my favorite show!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe they would cancel Spongebob... the creator especially. Think of all the money this guy is making not just with the cartoon, but t he mass marketing of Spongebob products... I don't know why he'd just suddenly stop.

Plus Spongebob was named one of the best cartoons of all time (I'm really embarrassed to know this )

If you are talking about the petition on that gopetition.com , I seriously doubt it is a credible source -- they even have petitions for 'pro-anorexia' So until you hear the news from Nick. ( the network!) I think Spongebob will be just fine.

i don't think they will permanently cancel the show. i was reading thru some msg boards and i guess a movie is slated for 2004 (jumps up and down and giggles ). So the writer wants to focus on that instead of the actual show. but i guess there are at least 6 seasons worth of material or something available so nickelodeon might show some of those along with the reruns they show now. but i checked nickelodeon.com and there was nothing about the show being cancelled. maybe just a short hiatus. if it is going to be cancelled... there will be a lot of sad spongebob fans... (and i just recently discovered the hilarity of it all.)

snopes.com had an interesting take on it as well. just hit "search" and look up spongebob... you will see what i mean.

This has got nothing to do with Spongebob, but I just wanted to bring up the fact that the "pro-anorexia" movement is not a joke, it's actually a legitimate movement started by people who think that anorexia should be recognized as a way of life rather than a disease. It's snowballed quite a bit in the past couple years and I think it's actually a pretty popular issue -- Oprah even did a show on it.
