QUESTIONS FOR MEN ONLY
I would like to address the following questions to men:
1. What is your stand with regard to feminism? Please elaborate.
2. What are your views regarding patriarchy? Please elaborate.
3. Do you agree or disagree with the notion that we live in a gender-biased and gender-discriminatory society? If you do agree, are women the only victims of this "sexist" culture or are men somehow "victimized", too?
Please E-MAIL me at discordantsymphony@yahoo.com
Thank you. =>tricia

To answer the first question, I think that there is a definite need for feminism. If women don't fight for themselves, they will never be able to balance the playing field.
I will now answer the third question. My reply is that we do live in a gender based society, whereas men are the dominant sex. But society has been formed that way from the interpretation of the bible. Look at the physical make up of the two genders, man has been created to be physically stronger and less emotionally sensitive. My personal view is somewhat different because my wife is just as stubborn and dominant as I am so we are equal partners. As for question two, please don't think of me as ignorant but I need clarification on the word "patriarchy", even though I iz edumicated.

1) Feminism at its most radical is self defeating. It is most useful when given to self-enlightenment. It has ultimately worked to disrupt the synergy between the sexes because it throws the natural order of gender relationships into a political and socio-economic battle that was never meant to exist, thus creating divorce, fractured families, and confused women looking for emotional pampering from Oprah, Iyanla, and "Sex in the City".
2)Patriarchy is/was the natural order of life since humans walked upright. The lack of cohesion, fractionalization, and disunity in our communities is directly proportional to matriarchal nature of contemporary Black society. Although this was once by default, it is so endemic that it is all that most Black children will know. Almost all social ills attack the weakest and most economically deprived families (which are almost always matriarchal) When a man does not assume his rightful place as provider, protector, and director of his family, they and the community suffer. What I have stated is no slight against the 75% of Black families that are headed by strong, Black women (some, not all) trying to do their best. But it is an uphill battle
3)Society is gender-biased, but that is a two-way street. Men seldom get custody of children in a divorce or custody battle. Women don't get drafted. Society must be gender biased because the sexes are not the same, nor are they equal. Somethings women can do better, some men. Equal maybe, different yes. Why would a woman want to be a man or like a man (and vice versa) Because a woman is a woman, doesn't make her less than a man on any level, just different. We should respect teh differences, not blur them.

I think there was a need to remind women that they deserve equality too; however, I think it has been taken too far. You may have to e-mail me for elaboration on that.
As with all creatures, the male species is responsible for the survival of the family. He therefore is the HEAD of the family. Selective breeding works; if you don't trust the values and judgement of the man you date, don't have HIS kids.
yes. Society is gender-biased today, as it has been for all time. Women are NOT the only victims; however, so many people tend to believe that.
I will e-mail you later on this.

I just HAD to put this in bold print. Some women tend to think they can turn a fool into a family man.

We need clear definitions before we can answer that question. Femanism is a term not to be confused with Womanism. The feminist movement never intended for Blacks, Latinos or Asians to be part of the movement. However to read Paula Giddings Book Where and When I Enter you realize that there may be such at thing as womanism. So for women there is a need for socail action that address their issues. The glass ceiling is apparent. This society it patriachal. I believe we all suffer from Gender Roles, as men we are expected to fill roles and if we do not conform to them we get discriminated against as well.
