If Nationals Died Would You Continue Your Chapter
I don't want the national orgainization to disappear, but let us say it did. Would you continue to work as an Alpha would you let your chapter continue or would you just quit. Personally I would continue and I'm sure most of the bros. I know would. Also would you continue to make new members or would you let the chapter and fraternity become relegated to the history books. Thoughts.

Obviously the man is trying to invoke serious thought about how important Alpha is to everyone who claims that they love it. But I agree with you Rock, I would continue the chapter regardless of a so called governing body

If you love your org. and its traditions run deep within your veins than it shouldn't be a question as to whether or not a person would continue their chapter. If you don't continue the chapter, uphold the morals and high ideals of your founders than that begs the question--"Why the **** did you pledge anyway!?"

"so called" Dexter are you for governing bodies or think them pointless, just how i read your comment, perhaps that wasn't your thinking at all. i say that because we've had to deal with alot of renegade (tacky) women who somehow got into our organization and have absolutely no respect for the "so called" governing body or the positive ladylike image the sororitiy has worked to establish since its inception.
Anyway if nationals AKA died (God forbid) then i would still work in my chapter no doubt, but i doubt there would be very much unity between other chapters if they are not keeping in touch with the traditions laid down by the founders in the beginning. there needs to be order, or we become just chapter memebers vs organizational members. i enjoy going anywhere and having the same sisterhood, vs "oh you're not in my chapter"

Understand what I mean. I'm saying that the love for your organization should be in your heart. You should be a living example on your own, not because a GOVERNING BODY tells you to. As for Nationals, I do think that it serves a purpose, however I know that my JEWELS founded this organization for YOUNG BLACK COLLEGE MEN. Although I do belong to a grad chapter, I think that grad chapters were not in the original plan.

Brother Dexter,
Nothing was in the plan of the Jewels. They, much like any new organization, built upon a vision. The vision now has national programs, grad chapters, etc.

on tha contrary Professor...
maybe initially there was no plan... but at one point i was in possesion of a DIRECT quote of one of tha jewels clearly stating his disapproval of grad chapters and how they are running tha organization, taking tha focus away from undergradz... if i can find it, i'll be SURE to post it on here...

Seeing how much we all love our respective organizations and how we claim to want to continue the tradition even if (god forbid) our corporate offices somehow were to dissolve ... I think we should focus on not letting that happen. But many things have got to change ... too many to name, but attitude towards one another is the first of the changes. If our national bodies fell by the waist side, some of us are so ignorant we could not keep Sorors (nor Frat) let alone whole chapters together, I agree with PositivelyAKA about how people would start tripping talking about my chapter vs yours and of course that is alive today, but our national body brings us together, get it!!
I tell you one thing, I love my AKA, but I am not going to do anything illegal to jeopardize or compromise myself or my values. So instead of thinking of the bad, we need to work towards keeping the dreams of our founders alive!!

I would continue because the community my particular chapter resides in really needs the service we provide-and they are extremely grateful for it.

I agree with my Sorors on this issue and I have to make a rather lengthy comment...
IMHO, since the "Board of Trustees" for our corporate offices have to come from a chapter wouldn't it seem rather difficult for a national governing body to dissolve? Also, since our governing system is in essence a "democracy", then essentially aren't we governed for the people, by the people? Just asking.
Secondly, especially for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the whole reason for establishing graduate chapters was to create a perpetual organization to maintain chapters' traditions on January 29, 1913. I thought that is why we became incorporated which naturally transcended to corporate office. Long time ago laws for non profits were not as well defined as they are now (somewhat). And now,'cuz our 501c3 tax ID status has to be maintained, all members need to have that "corporate" training.
Moreover, wouldn't it seem that from another country's perspective, our national president, Dr. Norma S. White IS the first representation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (this also goes for all the other NPHC affiliates, too)? And since the United States of America is a democracy, isn't a part of our heritage the diversity of organizations which is based on our Bill of Rights--the right for lawful assembly. So when some person from Palestine sees our organizations, I would hope that his thoughts about the USA aren't just based on who is sleeping in the "Lincoln" bedroom...

Of course I would continue holding up the light and I and my bros would continue making new brothers. I think there would be just as much unity as there is now. The only reason there is some disunity now is because the national organization shoved this MIP thing down our throats. Any way much love to all the real Alphas out there. As much disrespect as I can send to anyone who paid his way into my fraternity

I would also bring in boys the way I was taught, regardless of nationals...if nationals were to die (God forbid) this could mean anything for the frat in the sense maybe pledging cats would be easier for us, all we would have to do is govern ourselves (democracy is sweet).
A mighty '06!
