Our ZTA house was vandalized on Saturday. The mailbox which was really pretty was ripped off the house and is missing. The mailbox was made of wood and had ZTA carvings on it. The craziest things seem happen to greek houses...

Hey, y'all...

I think everyone was pretty shocked by this. I think it's one thing to have a rivalry between two schools (go Gamecocks!) but another think to vandalize $2 million dollar homes. I don't know how much you heard about this, BrownEyedGirl, but the ZTA house had it's door vandalized. Not that this isn't a bad thing, but this damage could easily be painted over. The SAE house, on the other hand, had it's lions painted. I don't know if you saw them when you were down here, but there are two huge lion statues on either side of the door. Someone told me the estimated cost on these, but I can't remember right now. I'm not sure if they were able to clean them off or not, but last I heard they tried and weren't able to. I'll be down in Cola in a couple of days, I'll check then. I had heard that the SAE's thought that it was another fraternity on campus, but unless they kept it really quiet, I really doubt it. I just hope that people understand that this goes pretty beyond just a little prank when you're messing with brand new houses.

Do people paint the SAE lions frequently on that campus? Everywhere I attended school--especially at Mississippi State--it was a big deal to sneak into the SAEs' yard and paint the lions. This, of course, led to retribution and was the source of the most trouble for the NIC advisor.

This is quite disturbing to me, on all levels.

I am so sorry the ZTAs and the SAEs had to experience this senseless, childish act of vandalism. I am concerned for all the rest of the houses, those already built and those yet to come. The Kappas have just started construction (we closed on the 31st), and I would hate to see that happen to the KKG house.

I hope the repair cost was not too high. So much money has already gone into USC's Greek Village, and it's such a plus for the University. Good luck to the ZTAs and SAEs on returning their property to the way it was before.

I hope that in the future those involved could find a more mature and less destructive way to show pride in their university, if indeed this stemmed from rivalry.

Carnation, if it's a common thing for the SAEs to have their lions defaced, they must be prepared for it since the lions at USC were cleaned so quickly! I don't think Bulldogs like cats anyway (if I knew how to use the smilies, I would put the winking one here!)!!!

Off the subject, is anyone else having a hard time posting on GC? It seems like I have to submit posts or PMs 2 or 3 times before they take.

Keep in mind that these houses are LITERALLY brand-new... KA, SAE, ATO, and ZTA just moved in August. So, if it's a tradition to paint the lions at other schools, noone would know about it here. USC is the only place in South Carolina to have a greek village of this size.

And PS, yes, I'm having problems posting, too. I thought it was just my computer, but apparently not.
