Activities Chapters Do

My chapter does not have a whole lot of activities that it does that are traditional and what not. I mean we have black diamond in the fall and date dash and spring fling in the spring. We also do mother's pinning in the fall at parents weekend. And then our end of each semester party. But that is it. I have heard some chapters do things like ADPi presents and other family events and teas...and I was wondering what some chapters do. Since we just had elections I was thinking I might be able to talk our new president to maybe start up some more traditions. Oh there is one more event we do that is also on parents weekend, and that is scholarship brunch to congradulate girls on their grades. Anyways, what do other chapters do?

i'm sorry nauadpi, our chapter is about like yours. i'm from a small university so we don't really do a lot of activities..... in the fall we do crush party and mistletoe madness..along with homecoming stuff, in the spring we do step sing, black diamond ball, final blowout. this fall we had grab-a-date and we also did a mom's day which was the first time for it in a few years. oh i almost forgot we do an alumnae christmas tea. thats pretty much about it....unless i might have left out something.

The fact you do a tea and things is weird to me. Also a few of us are trying to setup a mother's day, since exsitingly we only recognize them in a mothers pining over parents weekend.

activties

Question: do you all think that you want more ADPi activities during the year? I think it's nice to have at least two sorority-only events a month. If you are looking for suggestions I'd be happy to provide what my experience has been, and I'm pretty sure honeychile would be thrilled to share hers as well.
Also, just on the advisor tip; it's important that most of the "big" jobs on Eboard get an event of their own during the year. Even things like the transition of offices, which was always planned by the EVP, and that is usually approached as a rather dry and long day can be turned into a really fun, enriching experience and a traditional sisterhood event. But there are always more sister-focused events that can be planned. And, I do have quite a few ideas, but I won't inundate you all with them. The purpose of this post was most likely to see what other collegiate members are currently doing. So I'll try to let that happen and not act like uber-advisor, althought it's hard for me to do.
love to all AdPis,
violets

Doesn't every chapter have a Founder's Day celebration? My chapter (Alpha Iota) usually has it in February, since they're not in school in May, and that's when AI was founded. If there's a local alumnae group, they really should handle it for the chapter; unfortunately, ours is currently stagnant.

Speaking of teas, I have to say that I am shocked by what some people (not all sorority) try to pass off as a tea! A tea can be one of the least expensive & easiest forms of entertaining available, and yet I've seen cold cuts, casseroles, etc! I had mentioned a tea to the chapter when I was an advisor, explaining that they should run about $25 for the tea, coffee, and cookies (especially since certain alumnae always bring more cookies).

Honestly, when you say "Tea", alumnae only expect to see coffee & tea (brewed in the kitchen, poured without the bags, PLEASE!), sugar, sweetener, lemon slices, cream, and cookies or a cake. Give yourselves a break and don't knock yourselves out!

We also had Senior Wills, and more that I'm not remembering right now. It seemed as if we had a tea a month!

Our chapter does not have a near my alumnae association, so no we dont have any things with that. As for founders day, we do not celebrate it. First off we too end before nationals, and as a chapter due to the lack of alumnae we have never celebrated it. And we too do senior willing, but we do it at our end of the semester party.

:)

Our chapter is a relatively small chapter (50 total, plus 2) but we do manage to fill our time with a lot of activities.
September is typically filled up with traditional formal recruitment activities. October we have a Trick-or-Treat for Ron's House, where we go around local neighborhoods trick-or-treating for canned foods. We have a faculty tea-party every november, as well as our Semi-formal. Also in November, we go over to the Theta Chi fraternity house and have "Theta Chi Thanksgiving" with them. We go over, cook dinner together and afterwards, decorate their Christmas Tree together. Prior to initiation, we go on a retreat together somewhere. One of our sisters has a dad who owns a hotel, so we usually go over there for a weekend. It's a lot of fun. This year, for Christmas we are doing a "Secret Santa Sister" for exchanging gifts.
During winter semester (January-April), we usually don't have many set monthly events, but we have Black Diamond Formal, as well as informal recruitment (retreat with that as well). I am drawing a blank now on what else we do in the winter....
speaking of which....
I'll probably put up a post about this later, but since we're on the subject...
I am like 99% sure that I'll be appointed our new Philanthroy Chair for this year. Does anyone have any ideas of philanthropy events that we can do? Like I said, we already do the Trick or Treating in October, but we need something for Winter Semester too... Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Epsilon Zeta,

What is your lion hunt?

When I was at Zeta Omega, we did:
1) Find a Mister for Your Sister (a blind date set up date function)
2) Mallard Ball (a woodser-like campfire thing with hayride, bbq and music at a ranch-- date function)
3) Black Diamond Formal
4) Sweet Sorority Treat (a panhellenic dessert where we each invited 2-3 Greek women)
5) Alpha Party (themed like an Alpha Luau, Alpha-Stomp, Alpha Masquerade, Alpha Sock Hop, etc.)-- a themed party where we dropped 5 or so blank invites to the fraternities' pledgemasters-- they would send the pledges to the house and we would have a huge coming-out ball for our new girls-- no deltas allowed!
6) Mother-Daughter Brunch and Mother Pinning
7) Daddy-Daughter Bowl (#6+8 were Family Weekend)
8) Homecoming/Greek Week at our school with a fraternity
9) All Pi's, No Guy's-- Alum and collegiate social
10) Pi and Tea- Alum recruitment brunch preview
11) Family Day- family recruitment brunch preview
12) Professor Dessert: Dessert social to honor our professors
13) Flaggin Down the Fun: RMH fundraiser/flag football
14) ADPi 8-Ball: RMH fundraiser pool tournament

adpiucf, it sounds as if you have an AWESOME chapter!! I love every one of your activities!

Ladies, if you're not doing some sort of Panhellenic event, please consider it. Ours was terribly simple - all the sororities (but 2) are housed in one hall. We would put signs in the elevator and send invitations to informal Study Breaks, on set nights during Finals at 10-11pm - no men allowed! That way, everyone came as they were. We had a large urn of hot water ready, along with instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar, sweetener, and creamora. If we had cookies, we put them out. The end result was that several of the other groups actually rushed FOR us during COB, since they knew we were friendly. We also had several Panhel officers.

The Lion Hunt sounds like fun! When I was a pledge, we had a Lion Scavenger Hunt, and had to find x amount of lions OUTSIDE of the ADPi ones & take their pictures. It was a LOT of fun!

I thought everyone did a lion hunt.. It's our annual Fall Date Party. All of the guys get really excited. We dress up in camoflauge and everyone goes all out. You can look at our pictures on our website. It is always destination unknown. This past year it was at an Animal Reserve. We were very priveledged to have it here because one of our girls father's is the Senator of Texas. I know that the chapters at Sam Houston and at University of Texas hold an annual lion hunt as well.

We also have a Mother/Daughter banquet in the spring, and we also have an activity where Dads come in and teach us girls how to work on cars. It's a lot of fun!
