Questions for Alum Initiates

As some of you may recall, joining ZTA didn't work out for me. I'm currently thinking about alumnae initiation with another sorority. (I'm not sure which one yet. I'll give it more thought after finals. ) I'd like to ask a few questions of the ladies here who have done AI.

1. Do you regret not having the "traditional" Greek experience?
2. Is it difficult to get other sisters to accept you?
3. What kinds of activities does your alumnae chapter do?

I was in a local that colonized when I was in college-- so I did have a traditional Greek experience. Sometimes I wish I had always been a DPhiE (so that I could have taken advantage of the resources) but I am happy with the way things have turned out. I decided to be initiated so that I could volunteer for the sorority--I wanted to give something back to the system that gave me so much. No one has ever treated me differently or made me feel as if somehow I don't belong. In fact, I serve the sorority on the International level now and am very active with the organization as a whole, rather than a specific chapter. The volunteers are pretty tight and we enjoy spending time together at conferences and the like.

Re: Questions for Alum Initiates

1. Do you regret not having the "traditional" Greek experience? Yes, always.
2. Is it difficult to get other sisters to accept you? Usually not, though sometimes the "older generation" are somehow suspect of us.
What kinds of activities does your alumnae chapter do?
I help out with Recruitment, Founders Day, and we have socials.

I was in the same pledge class as Heather17 so I too did experience the collegiate greek life. I wish I had had the opportunity to be an AOII as an undergrad, but I have loved every minute of being an AOII. I have had the opportunity to be an adviser as well as volunteer my expertise on an international level.

Other sisters that I meet do not treat me any different than a sister that was initiated as a collegian - in fact a lot of them think its really great because I CHOSE AOII over about 24 different groups.

Best of luck with your search!

Sarah

maybe this is a nebby question, but if y'all were in the same pledge class, how did you end up in two different GLO's? I'm curious!

AI

I love being AI. It is the best thing that I have done for myself in a VERY long time.
I am not treated any differently from any other member in AOII.
I have felt nothing but love and respect.

Our alumnae chapter is VERY active and wonderfully fun!

Because it was a local and Heather chose to initiate with DPhiE after the chapter was chartered and I chose AOII years later. We both were members when the colony was founded but left the school prior to the chapter being chartered.
